2006 Honda Civic Hybrid
The good ol' scratch magnet is at the dealers again to get its boot lid aligned properly. Meanwhile the dealer was kind enough to lend me a Hybrid Civic instead of the usual Jazz that I've had several times already.
First impressions - it's basically pretty similar. It is a 4-door so it not nearly as cool to look at, but the steering wheel and some other visible bits are exactly the same. This car is an automatic it's the first automatic I've ever driven for longer distances. It's a 1.4 litre petrol engine coupled with an electric one. They seem to work well and even the acceleration isn't bad and I've already gotten used to my 1.8. The engine turns itself off when stationary which is pretty odd at first, but its so smooth it's easy to forget. Well, anyway, pictures coming tomorrow, and maybe even a few more observations. yes i drove one of them when my car was in for service.
Quietest car i have ever driven. Bit bland as an overall package but a nice car though. Yes took getting used to having the engine switch off by itself when idle in a traffic jam etc but never caused a prob. The hybrid is available in manual as well. Well it is in England anyway. The one i drove was manual. Last edited by Type S Bournemouth : 10th October 2006 at 18:37. |

I meant I was wrong, but after checking honda.co.uk \ Build your Civic Hybrid I must say that it doesn't allow me to choose manual transmission. Not that it matters if it's available or not. I just assumed it wasn't because demo cars in Finland are usually manual and basic in other ways too.

Interestingly the Hybrid doesn't have a rear wiper either. And I agree with TSB, it feels and looks bland.
Also what seems noteworthy is the external aerial this one has. It seems it's standard on these Hybrids. The regular 4D has an integrated aerial like the hatchback but for some reason they've ended up putting what is not a very attractive thing on the roof. |
