...but why can't it look like a Civic?
The Hybrid is a great concept ...but why can't they use the current petrol/diesel body style? They could mount the battery pack under the rear seat and forego some of the 'magic seat' whilst still retaining the fold-down seat back/fold-up on the single seat side. Or make it a 50/50 split and use under the seat on one side + a thicker static seat back housing for extra battery storage. Why do Hybrid cars have to look so different

Probably because they sell the most in the US. It's based on the US model by the looks of it.
Also if it looked like the 'proper' one, the drivers would be driving with enthusiasm and negating the hybrid advantage! |

Very true; but at least it would look like it was going faster when driven moderately! |

Also I don't think the engine bay in the Euro civic is big enough Allan
even with you suggestion ( could be wrong) but I think it is another reason The design of the all-new hybrid is not offensive in anyway - just not as good looking as the Euro civic |

Yeah the engine bay in the hatchback is way too small for all the hybrid gubbins. Didn't they have to mutilate the 2.2 i-CTDI a bit to get it in there?

Next year the hatchback-hybrid will be introduced, so I've read in a dutch magazine some while ago
Edit, I found the article. From AutoWeek.nl - alles over uw volgende auto (nieuwe auto's, occasions, tests, gebruikersreviews), dated March 27, 2007. It says that the 5-door Civiv Hatchback will be avaible in 2008, the 3-door in 2009. Last edited by Wouter; 24th August 2007 at 18:04. |
