No light in glovebox compartment?

I read somewhere that the Civic Hybrid does not have a light in the gloveboxcompartment. Is this true? If it is, I think it's a stupid way of saving a few pennies on the production . And if it is, is it possible to install one afterwards, either by your dealer or by yourself?

if you open the glove box at night you will lose power, due to the drain on the battery.

Does'nt make sense to me. A simple 2 or 5 watt light bulb won't drain the battery, especially when the engine is running. Even better, on the Civic Hybrid, airco and stereo will keep running when engine is shut off.

im only joking, may be its a cost saving measure, and im yet to see any real advatage of hybrid cars unless you want to beat the congestion charge.

im still yet to find any answer to my question:- how much is a set of batteries? no one seams to know, and im yet to find any battery that is as good as it was from day one after 5 years use.

the bit of money you will save on car tax and fuel will not pay for a NEW SET OF BATTERIES. rest

My concern exactly.
A hybrid as a 3-year lease car - yes.
To buy one myself - no.

all car drivers are made to think we are killing the planet, we have to pay more and more. but the u.k only emitts 3% of the co2 which is killing the plant, so why are we being charged the most for cars, gas etc?

now when you hybrid is scrapped, how much are you going to be charged to dispose of them very earth friendly batteries?

the questions that should be asked are just pushed aside and we are brain washed into this and that, and most people just follow what they are told. total mugs!!!

For me, the ammount I would drive at low enogh speeds to be on battery only is minimal. If I took it easy it would be 1 km in the morning before getting to the motorway on ramp. And that would give the engine not a lot of time to warm up before accelerating to m-way speed.

Sorry getting very off-topic - this was about a glove box light.

Talking

The Hybrid glovebox doesn't need a light. This is because rather than opening a lid into a dark box, when you open it, the whole thing comes out, so it comes out into the light. Simple. In all the times I've opened my glovebox in the dark (not many times, but enough to know, it's not been a problem!)

I think there's a lot of ignorance about hybrids. The hybrid never drives on battery only for starters!

Thanks LNT for the answer.

Honda gives 8 year warranty on the hybrid battery, don't they? So I guess that te worries about a new one are for the next owner

Oh yes it does...

I know this is an old topic and thread drift but I had to correct one of the posts above. The hybrid does run on battery only in certain circumstances....if you back off the pedal at around 15-25 mph to get into regen and then very gently squeeze it again you can get up to 5 bars of asist with the petrol engine off and continue for some distance (miles rather than yards if you can keep your foot still !).

As I have said in previous posts you really have to learn how to use the hybrid, you can't drive it like a conventional car and expect to get the benefits available from its clever technology.

I've now had mine for some months, but only driven a few thousand miles due to working from home a lot. It is now giving (with the right driving!) 60mpg+ in mixed driving over hundreds of miles. I am sure it will do better as the miles increase and get up to the 72mpg+ that I was getting from the old mk1 (had done about 17000 miles) before I changed.
