And the cheapest insurance renewal is.....

Chris Knott.

I'm 32, 8yrs ncb, 1 sp30 and a long modifications list.

I'm renewing with Chris knott because their monthly instalments charges are half than that of Adrian Flux.

Chris Knott - £787
Aquote - £789
Adrian Flux - £762
Greenlight - £897

This year's quote is 25% higher than last years and it seems to be the same for everyone as you can see from the quotes above, not just Chris Knott - however they have still come in the cheapest.

Apart from a sharp excess, I still get the protected ncb as well as the usual windscreen cover, topless girl air freshener etc.

Hi Kimo,

Thanks for trying us.

Our Civinfo scheme has only been switched on formally this afternoon and there are some factors that we may be able to use to influence the rate/terms provided (length of residence at your current address, track cover not required etc).

We're here to learn, refine and develop the scheme to cater for people like you upon Civinfo. The extent of modifications highlight your colours as a definite vehicle enthusiast and that is exactly the type of individual we're here to cater for.

If you can PM me your actual name and postcode (or quotation reference), the length of time that you have been resident at your current address, whether track cover is a pre-requisite for you and your driving experience up to 2 years prior to the CTR GT i'll be able to review then hopefully (dependent upon your answers) enhance the original terms provided.

Kind regards

Tony

Thanks for the additional detail Kim,

A combination of using the Civinfo scheme and the additional information that you kindly supplied has been really useful in improving the terms we were able to source.

Our technical team should have emailed the alternative options available to you this morning, the choice will really come down to whether you require the ability to have track cover.

Kind regards

Tony

Ok so just a brief update to my quest on the best deal for modified-car insurance....Greenlight has now come in the cheapest:

Chris Knott - £787
AQuote - £789 (awaiting updated quote based on declared mods)
Adrian Flux - £750 (previously £762)
Greenlight - £697 (previously £897)

Going to make up my mind by the end of the week, will keep you all posted.

Hi Kim,

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to compete for your custom (and for the repost).

The additional detail that you had provided in relation to your driving experience over the last 3 years, your length of residence at your current address and moving you to the Civinfo scheme were all really helpful in terms of sourcing improved pricing for your policy.

Good talking with you via PM too, you explained your concerns relating to both Insurance and certain Underwriters which allowed me to elaborate from an industry insider perspective.

Both quotations provided by us included like for like replacement cover for damaged/stolen modified parts, but the higher priced one also had the option of PAYG track cover.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Kim,

To be fair to Endsleigh, they started many years ago as an Insurance broker that covered students. They had an affiliation with the student unions and expanded to grow a branch network, but we rarely encounter them upon performance cars so presumably they do not specialise or target this sector.

They're a pretty large entity, but they will probably be focussed upon their student connections along with Mr Average, rather than Mr High Performance or Mr Modified.

Kind regards

Tony

so today my mind was made up and I am not renewing with Chris Knott for 2010/2011.

I have taken a policy with GreenLight Insurance.

May I just mention that I have never had a bad experience with CK insurance, and always found them to be pleasant and efficient. I would easily recommend them, particularly if you are an R owner with LOTS of mods. It's a shame that they were not able to give me a more competitive deal but that is life.

Come next renewal, they will be next on the list to ask for a quote.

Thank you for your business Kimo, it's appreciated!

We had some decent conversations and hopefully our explanation of insider detail relating to the different Insurers, along with discussing potential issues that you raised as well as features you required was helpful to you.

Your praise of Chris Knott Insurance shows integrity, which is a good trait.

We're glad to have you with us.

Kind regards

Tony

Sorry Jason,

We're dead competitive, but the reason we achieve this is down to smart risk selection based upon our historic performance.

We have covered pretty much every type of performance model over the years and have learned along the way, with our products evolving as we go.

Once you have 12 months experience (or 6-8 months performance car experience earned over the winter period) we'll be able to cater for you. It's just that we look to protect our schemes for the benefit of all for the long term.

Kind regards

Tony
