New lad from leeds!!
Hiya guys...
Andy here from leeds... Ex owner of an '05 EP3 Type-R.... After 1 whole enjoyable year of owning my CTR i decided it was time for a more practical approach to motoring, as i'm now paying for a house and the girlfriend was unable to get insured... So... after the experience this could only lead to another Honda... the Civic EX... Got an excellent deal on this car as it's preowned only to the managing director of SB Honda.... 07 reg 5000 miles and every optional accessory that can be squeezed on! After knowing the in's and out's of the CTR i feel that i have a lot to learn from the new model... I feel to have a few bugs that need sorting...Suspension occassionally knocking, dashboard chirping, whining noise when engine under strain.... but.... this is a Honda, It CAN'T let me down.... so....I'm here to learn! Nice to meet you all guys! |

Nice to meet you too Andy, and welcome to civinfo.
Did you get a good price for the EP3. I've seen them on my dealers forecourt and they are still holding their value really well. |

Hi Dimplyred...
The EP3's hold the value so well... I paid £12,000 apprx. 1 year ago... and it's now back on the forcourt at SB Honda in Wakefield for £12,000... I paid £17,000 for the new EX getting £11,000 trade in for the EP3! I'm yet to sample the delights of comfort rather than speed... which is also why i swapped....but from what i can gather if i'd have been after speed again and gone for the FN2... like Jeremy Clarkson's thoughts I would have been hugely disappointed...The new shape does a comfortable ride with flawless results, but in all honesty does not provide any excitement whatsoever...which is where i feel the FN2 would fall...Have you driven an EP3? What are your views on this? |

No I've never driven the EP3, this is my first Honda. I did look at them a few times over the past couple of years, before the new shape civic came out, with the thought of buying one, but I always felt there were so many other better looking cars than the EP3 and that stopped me. Buying a car for me isn't just about how fast it is. I wouldn't mind having a go in one though and I might do when I've got a bit of time on my hands.
Have you driven a FN2, I can't really decide from your post if you have or not? Last edited by Dimplyred; 2nd January 2008 at 13:41. |

Seriously though....did you see the episode of top gear where they raced the old EP3 against the new FN2... Trust me mate....I was gutted... I sold the EP3 and got an EX to share with my girlfriend with the idea in mind to pay for it and let her keep it while i then bought a brand new FN2... this however shattered all of my dreams! I mean...where could i go next? An FN2 which clarkson described as slow, boring, badly designed... an S2000 which is only really smaller EP3 or find myself £60k and buy myself an NSX? Hmmmm :-s

Yes we all saw the Top Gear episode and it was discussed at great length on here, with the general conclusion that it was one blokes opinion and it was better to make your own mind up and form your own opinion.
So have you driven the FN2??? |

No Dimplyred unfortunately i have not been lucky enough to drive the FN2 yet... and before buying a new car it will be the first thing i do! The only information i can go by is that of the CivicType-R.co.uk forum which i've been a member of a couple of years and the Top Gear reviews...
I am simply gutted at some of the un-deniable bad publicity that the FN2 has been on the receiving end of, this was gonna be my next car... But as Honda Die-Hard as i am, i'm gonna get my new EX fixed and give her all she's got for a few years, hopefully that should be the decider! |

Hi Andy
you have found the best forum for info on the Civic Clarkson says things to stir up reaction. Anyone who thinks the FN2 is slow on public roads ought to be locked up. I have driven the EP3 and own the FN2. I liked the EP3 but couldn't live with the steering - you would get more feel of whats going on from an old Cadillac. The FN2 steering feel is pretty good, especially for an electrical assistance system. I have also driven the s2000 and NSX over good distances and the FN2 is better handling than both and not much slower. |

No...I wanted to keep the EP3 as i was more than happy with the car... i didn't use the car during the week so to save money i told my girlfriend to insure herself for it and use it to commute to work, leaving us also able to sell her car for the money.... however, this all went tits up when she couldn't get insured only been 20, aswell as later deciding that she couldn't afford the running expenses of the car...
So we got rid of both cars for the EX...smaller engine....cheaper to run..... Also with the intention that when it was paid for i was allowed to get myself a new car of my own that would be just a toy in effect... this was defintely gonna be the FN2!... The only thing thats spoilt this is the FN2's publicity and that after 1 year of owning the EP3 trouble free i buy an almost new EX only to find a list of faults and recall work needing to be done... But, been a Honda-Nut i'm gonna battle on and stick with whats best! Hopefully my views will change and in a few years time i'll be sat inside my new FN2??? |

I think it will be a shame if you don't drive it and make your own mind up when the time comes for you to buy again.
I share Munro's opinion, I think the FN2 is a fantastic car!! Anyway you've got a lot of reading to do on here, enjoy your new civic!!! |

Hi Tony!!!
I bought mine from SB Honda in Wakefield as i had 2 very bad customer service situations from Stratsone in Leeds... Although... I do seem to remember the Sport GT that you bought been on the forecourt, think it was parked dead opposite an old shape Milano red Sport? Anyway...keep a look out for me as i only live 5 minutes away from you in Dewsbury!! |
