Hi everybody and a Happy New Year to all,
I've had my silver Civic 2.2ES for nearly a year now, and on the whole it is a superb car. It has now done 12,000 miles and the character of the engine has subtly changed in the last 1,000 miles or so. It's getting just a bit smoother and looser - perhaps these diesels just take longer to bed in? Average fuel consumption over the life of the car so far has been just under 46mpg (calculated by me) as against just over 48mpg (calculated by the car's computer) but I've no complaints at that. The 140bhp on tap is occasionally tempting... There was an annoying intermittent rattle from the dashboard area, but after pressing down firmly on the centre of the mid-dash air vent a while ago, I seem to have cured it. Things I like: The shape - it stands out from the crowd and has real character. Brilliant dashboard - makes me feel good every time I drive (especially at night). What an engine! The best diesel I've ever experienced, smooth, powerful and quiet. The overall high quality of the car and level of equipment. The spacious boot and great 'magic seats' concept. The glass roof, giving a wonderful airy feel. The dealer (Greenacre Honda, Blackburn) is first rate. I had the iPod docking fitted, and it's nicely hidden in the small cubby behind the gear lever (but see 'niggles' below). Things that niggle: Poor rear visibility (that spoiler), and tricky to reverse. The ride is a bit too jiggly. Could learn from VW Golf and Ford Focus. I question the durability of the interior fabric. Time will tell... Seats too firm. It feels like I'm sat on a dome, and the seat back pushes into the small of my back. Slightly recalcitrant gearchange, especially neutral to first. Limited control of iPod. You can only choose playlists, not individual tracks. Not the very best of paint finishes, a bit orange-peely. Alloy wheels already pitting (I'll make a separate posting on this). But overall the car's a beaut, and I intend to keep for at least 3 years if not longer. |

Hi and welcome to civinfo. Your likes and dislikes are common ones with a lot of civic owners. I agree with you though the car is a "beaut" and I really like mine too!!

Welcome,
I am glad you like the car and seeing you have had to it for a year and still like tells us that the car is a good 'un. I personally find the seats very comfortable and over a recent journey found I reached the other end without any pains etc. But each to their own. I love the shape of the car as you do and only the other day a guy told me that he thought the look of my car was "excellent and different" I felt good after that! I hope you have another year of happy motoring in you "beaut of a car" |

Great to hear you are enjoying the car.
An excellent choice of spec by the way Your "things you like" and "niggles" list is very similar to mine, I can't comment on the quality of the fabric as I went for leather. I have to admit though the quality of the leather doesn't seem too great. I have similar mileage and the alloys are also pitting. Very disappointing as I have always treated them well and never used chemical cleaners. If you fancy a drive out next weekend check out the Yorkshire meet thread in the meetings section. This ones near the Yorks / Lancs border and tends to attract a few from the Lancashire side. We might even have a 'cruise' over the tops weather permitting |
