First Civic + vibration worries

Hello
This is my first post.
I bought my Civic at the end of last year from a local Honda dealer; a 07 plate ex-demo ES in silver (1700miles). I general I've been happy. I've had a few niggles :
- fuel cap not opening
- squeaky wipers
- NSF shock replaced to cure knocking
- heated rear windscreen not clearing
From a quick look around the forum some of these seem to be common complaints. The dealer has fixed all of the above eventually.

However, one thing which does suprise me is the vibration I feel through the pedals (and up into the steering wheel but to a lesser extent). It seems to be related to the road surface (i.e. worse on rough surface) but is present even on the smoothest of surfaces. It's most noticable at higher speeds (say 60+) but still present at lower speeds. It feels like I am feeling the surface direct through the pedals and there is little 'damping' provided by the car. It's present in all 3 pedals but most noticable when braking or when dipping the clutch say 1/2inch before it dis-engages (if that's the correct expression). Also, the most minor of bump on the road feels like a pot-hole.

I mentioned this to the dealer when the car was in for one of the above. When I collected it, I was informed that the technican could detect the problem as I described it but was not aware it was a known fault or had even been made aware of it previously. He apparently tested a couple of other Civic's on the forecourt and both experienced the same problem. The dealer therefore put it down as standard on the vehicle. If it's standard, I presume you all notice it too ? I've never driven another Civic so have nothing to compare to.

Do I have a problem ? or am I just being picky ? All suggestions gratefully received (although please explain in basic terminology). I have the car back in for it's first service in 2 weeks and would like to ask the dealer to investigate again if there really might be something up.

Thanks.

That doesn't seem normal at all. Could you ask the dealer if you could drive another car to compare? It's also a bit suspicious that the NSF front shock has been replaced - I wonder if they put it back together correctly.

The fuel cap has a simple fix that should have been applied, the squeaky wipers is a known thing (silicone lube needed down the shaft) and the heated screen should definitely work well (apart from a couple of wires which are the aerial).

Hi Eddy74
Welcome to the forum.
Can't say I have noticed any vibration but will check later when I go out.

ref NSF shock

ref the comment about the NSF front shock. The vibration was present both before and after this was replaced to much the same extent. The NSF shock replacement did cure the knocking I was experiencing from that area of the car when coming off a speed bump though.

No vibration on mine, doesn't sound right to me, the dealer must have a duff batch or is telling porkies. No they wouldn't do that would they.

It may be worth having the wheels re balanced to see if that is the source of the vibration problem.

Thanks all for your suggestions to date. Car in for a service tomorrow. I will mention the above and see if they can investigate once more.

What tyres does it have?
Factory fit 16" BS Trunza, optional 17" Yokohama dB, or neither of these?

They are factory fit 16" Bridgestone Turanza.
Drove a Civic SE loan car for the first time this morning, and this feels much more like how I would imagine (even though same tyres as mine). It feels like it's riding/floating on top of the road (if you see what I mean), and much more stable. Whereas mine feels like it's riding within the road surface and therefore sluggish esp. when the road surface changes quality.

That doesn't sound right at all...push the dealer to drive it for a bit with you in the car... if he doesn't notice anything get him to drive another one before to compare with...

And the wipers - the Honda ones were so bad I changed mine!
