Lurker now a member :O)
I have been reading the forum for a good while now and thought it was about time I introduced myself.
I found the site when I was doing some info gathering prior to purchasing my new car. So far it has been invaluable and I have read lots of good tips and information from many of the new and long standing members. So before I get all emotional I should say thanks to the helpfull community that resides here. I tend not to post a great deal in forums, but do use them when I have a problem/question that needs advice from the experts, fingers crossed when I ask my first question the help flows (I'm sure it will). Well what am I driving ? Civic EX i-Shift with Leather/Glass Roof and stock 17" Wheels. Its a Champagne Silver one (I havent seen another in my area) which will be sporting a "Civinfo.com" sticker on the back window (when it drops through the letterbox). My last car (Focus) was only hand washed twice in 7 years. The Civic is getting much better treatment :O) Its had two in as many weeks, all cleaning products were ordered based on users experience in this very forum (thanks again). Well thats enough from me for the time being. See you all round the forum and in your spaceships wizzing around. Keep an eye out for me if you out and about in the Bodmin/Truro/Newquay triangle SpaceMonkey Last edited by spacemonkey; 3rd June 2008 at 19:21. Reason: where is my sig ? |

Welcome Spacemonkey!
Nice car I see you have been drawn in by the 'cleaning crowd', so far I have managed to steer clear of bankrupting myself with cleaning materials There is a lot of information on the site which is good that you have found it useful. Enjoy your car and welcome! |

Thanks for the welcome.
Civinfo.com sticker now in place. Its a really nice day outside, my hardwork polishing/waxing last Sunday seems to have paid off. I have had a few people at work requesting sun glasses to protect their eyes from the glare :O) Looks for digital camera........... Nightmare...Flat battery. Photos will have to wait until its charged and sunny again. |

Wikipedia says:-
"The term dates back to the mid-1980s. Because BBSs were often accessed by a single phone line (frequently in someone's home), there was an expectation that all who used a bulletin board would contribute to its content by uploading files and posting comments. Lurkers were viewed negatively, and might be barred from access by the sysop, if they did not contribute anything but kept the phone line tied up for extended periods. By contrast, many modern Internet communities now advise newbies to lurk for some time to get a feel for the specific culture and etiquette of the community, lest they make an inappropriate or redundant comment, ask a Frequently Asked Question, or incite a flame war. This leads to the tongue-in-cheek command to "lurk more". The verb to "de-lurk" means to start contributing actively to a community having been a lurker previously. There are also some who lurk on a forum habitually, and rarely, if ever, contribute. It is generally difficult to guess how many such lurkers are present, due to their silence. In flame-wars, a participant who is losing an argument will sometimes claim to receive email support from lurkers. This inspired Jo Walton to write a filk on the subject entitled "The Lurkers Support Me in Email". As I have no intention of causing harm or fear then I dont think I am a stalker......... Or maybe I am :O) |
