Hello! From a potential new civic owner

Hi there

My name's Stephen and I'm a bit of a Jap car fan, and I write for (the soon to be shelved) J-Tuner magazine.

As well as my 'fun car' (a supercharged Nissan 350Z), I've currently got a 'beater', which is a year-old Skoda Fabia vRS. Don't take the piss too much, it's dirt cheap and fast, and has all the buttons.

However, it's a touch small and I wanted something a bit more grown-up, so I've looked at the new Civic 2.2 diesel. It's not as fast or as immediate as the Fabia, but it's certainly good enough and I like it.

However, there's a few stumbling blocks to the car... can you help?

1. I want to use my existing Kenwood all-singing all-dancing touchscreen single DIN headunit. I can't see how the hell you could even develop a facia adaptor for this car, help! Do I have to buy the EX to get a screen? I'd rather just get the Sport model for what I want. And if I get an EX, how can I play DVD's on that screen? Is it doable?

2. Can you ramp the performance on this, via a chip to help wind up the turbo at all? I saw someone's sig had a '170ps' mention - that sounds realistic. (I'm coming from a VAG block that does a comfortable 130-180bhp for a 1.9, so I'm hoping the Honda 2.2 block has a bit more scope in it).

Didn't realise J-Tuner was about to die - bought a couple of copies since getting the Civ, and thought it was pretty good

Can't add anything to Karlak's answers (and you certainly wouldn't want to listen to my comments on the audio side of things - complete numpty here when it comes to that!)
But we are investigating tuning options on the 2.2 - there's a couple of good threads (though I say so myself

) in the 'Engine' section in here

Go for it - you won't regret it!

Thanks for posting the thread about the adaptor. I was searching for 'facia' (and 'fascia') so it didn't turn up on my travels!

I speak fairly good German but there was no mention on that Austrian site of it being a unit that could be bought or being a stock Japanese item - additionally, with us being right-hookers that narrows the scope even further.

Hmmm.... wondering what my options are here!

(PS - J-Tuner has been cancelled in a few issues by Future Publishing as they are having a cull of titles. However if it sells brilliantly in the next few issues, it'll be saved. Feel free to take out a subscription!)

I'm sure John Pease Honda are willing to answer all your questions and maybe even sell you one their cars, if it comes to that. I don't think they read all threads here, like us hardcore users, but you'll find them in their own little section.
