Hello - First test drive today (1.8)
Hi all,
Had my first test drive today in a 1.8 S. I'm looking to either get a 2.2 or 1.8 EX when I order. How realistic are the mpg figures for the 2.2? I've seen mixed reviews about it. Today I found the 1.8 to be fantastically smooth compared to my Citroen C4 1.6 VTR+. At first it didn't seem fast until I looked at the speed I was doing. I'm looking forward to my 2.2 test next weekend. Hopefully will be able to have another quick spin in the 1.8 to compare better. Tried a reverse park today and didn't seem to bad at all, although it was a perfectly clear sunny day. I've seen that there's a reverse parking camera. Does anyone have this and is it better than the parking sensors? Cheers, ste |

Parking sensors are a must IMHO.
I think those with the camera, including Pottsy, like it alot! (see: IR Rearview Camera and Rear View Camera) |

Thanks for that link jay.
The camera is much better than I had imagined from looking at those photos. Will most likely order it as an option. Cheers, ste |

I can recommend the rear view camera. You need to look at the 'Studio Pack' @ £850 which includes the camera, doorstep garnish, blue ambient lighting and floor mats. The camera alone is £625.

i personally dont see the need for a camera, i dont have any issues with vision out of the rear of my car and dont have any issues reversing what so ever.

The benefit of a rear view camera is being to see exactly what is behind you from the ground up with the increased safety. I have on one occasion thanked god that I had one when my 3 year old grandson came out of the house and went behind the car as I was about to reverse. Couldn't see him in any mirror and didn't see him go behind the car. |

Cheers Wooly,
That looks great. I'll definitely be adding the Studio Pack to my shopping list. Looking forward to next weekend now so I can have a chance to play with the EX model. Lots more gadgets! Perhaps I'll get a chance to use the satnav. At the moment I use a PDA sat nav and it takes a while to get a signal. How accurate etc is the built in one in the civic? Cheers, ste |

Stew, if you treat the satnav as a guide and not as an absolute then it is as good perhaps better than any aftermarket kit. The POI's are quite literally cr@p as a lot of the post state. The good bit is that it is fixed kit and not so nickable and is positioned well with a good screen.
For a good perspective of it use the search button and search for satnav |

Cheers, Hi Stew, I use the civic sat nav all the time. It is accurate at getting me where I need to be and the traffic avoidance has saved me hours of traffic jams. I have used built in sat nav for a few years now, my last was in the Toyota (much more basic but did its job well) as well as portable ones. My preference would be to have built in where possible. I also like the other features you can view on the sat nav screed i.e climate control settings, audio settings etc |

The 1.8 Civic has 140BHP, the 1.6 C4 has 110BHP, and the C4 is a big car to lug around. The only C4 that is comparable to the current civic is a 2 litre, with 138BHP. My brother has one and that is also very smooth, if not quite as fast. |
