Honda convert via Triumph!
Hi. Discovered this site today and already its been useful as I've discovered I'm not the only Civic owner who can't open his fuel cap - despite the high tech fix [Sponge Bob] from Honda! Before this Civic I owned a Jazz, before that a HRV. Before those 'proper' Honda's I owned two Rover 400/200 series - making sure I had the ones with the Honda engines and a Triumph Acclaim. This Acclaim was bought as a winter car whilst my then pride and joy - a 1978 Triumph Dolomite Sprint that I'd owned from new - remained tucked up in the garage.
Its interesting to compare the Sprint with the Civic as it confirms what Honda say about the Civic. Two litre performance with 1.5 litre fuel consumption. The Sprint would do 0 - 60 in 8.7 seconds and so will my petrol Civic. Trouble was it would only do 24 to 28 mpg whereas I get 42 mpg from my Civic. Just for the record my Sprint didn't overheat, did 124,000 miles before needing a major engine overhaul and cost £5,500 - almost the same as my annual salary at the time! The Civic by comparision is just exceptional in terms of reliability, extras, economy, build quality --where do you stop -- and at £15,000 far less that a years' salary! I also find that the Dealers are far, far better than those from the 70's.......Mind you the filler cap didn't stick..... |
