Hi Everyone, I have just joined the Civic forum.
I do not currently own a Honda Civic but I am seriously considering buying one. I currently drive a Mini Cooper, which I love and has served me really well in the two years that I have had it - no problems what so ever. I was intending to buy another Mini when I come to change my car next year however I have been stopped in my tracks by the new Honda Civic. It looks fantastic both inside and out (I just love the two tier dashboard). Its the only car that is a serious contender to my Mini (the thing I like about my Mini is the fact that it is different!). Most cars these days all look the same - bland and boring. But the Civic is different! I'm driving my husband mad going on about it all the time. I'm waiting for Civic S Type to come out before I make my decision and take a test drive (although I really would like the Type R!). Anyway its interesting reading all your comments and determining what options I should have on the Civic. I really would like the I-shift but I have heard mixed reports so still undecided. Your comments on the I-shift would be appreciated. |

Blueberry, welcome to the forum. Many of us had Mini's until we looked at the new Civic. You will be amazed at the comfort and space (both for passengers and luggage). Getting in and out is easier too; and a boot that you can actually use!!

Hey blueberry, you'll get far more admiring looks in a new civic than you will in a mini (they're everywhere!). If i were you i'd go for the 5 door, doesn't look any less interesting and is more practical, let us know!

Thanks czechplastik.
With so many models to choose from I am still undecided but I am studying all the options and what will best suit my needs although I must have the glass roof and I'm afraid WHB! I will let you know what I decide. Thanks again |

Hi Blueberry, welcome to the forum.
It's stating the obvious to say that the Civic is a far more practical car than the Mini - in fact the Civic , especially in 5dr form, is a very practical motor indeed as well as very stylish - you do not find those two attributes together very often. As far as options go, it all depends on the model you go for - the GT in particular has good specification. I have the 5dr EX i-Shift which is great - most folk with that transmission on this forum seem to love it but the auto mode does require some adjusting too for smoothness and once mastered it is great. The sequential change via the gear lever or steering wheel paddles is much more straightforward and great fun to boot. This mode I use for 90% of the time. It even has a very slight advantage over the manual version on mpg & emissions. The new version Mini looks to be improved though, especially with its new engine & gearbox in particular. |

oops - got varried away!
Anyway as I was saying - by what I understand about the I-shift - once you have got the hang of it it is very good and i do especially like the idea of the paddle gear change - it sounds like real good fun ! |

I think the i-Shift is great but yes you do need to get the hang of it! A half hour test drive will just put you off! Try and get a 24 Hour testdrive with one, you will love it
