Valve Cap

Hello Everone,
I stumbled on Civinfo the other day whilst searching for clues about the filler cap problem on my Civic. I'm obviously not alone! This is my first Honda, which follows in the wake of a couple of Alfa's. I was looking for something with a reputation for reliability, and was all set to buy a Mazda until someone at work suggested I check out the Honda diesel. I was quickly convinced! Mine is Galaxy grey, and I've had it about 4 months. My conclusion is that the perfect car does not exist - that said, I love it. My criticisms are The filler cap. I thought mine would be a one-off, but obviously not. The pin retracts fully when the release is operated but there is no spring action to force the cover open. I've read of the Honda 'fix' which uses a bit of foam to do the job; this is NOT an engineered solution (which I would expect fron Honda) but a bodge, and I intend to let them know my view.. The rear wiper. The men in suits will tell you that a rear wiper is unnecessary due to the curvature of the screen - they are WRONG. What they mean is that it is not possible to fit one due to the integral spoiler! Incidentally, I've applied some Rain-X to mine, which is a big help - try it if you're as frustrated with it as I was. The 'spare wheel'. A nice idea as the space saved is useful. The compressor + goo is fine for a flat tyre, but what about a blow-out or other tyre damage? I'll reserve judgement until my first flat! Finally, not a criticism but a suggestion. Having owned Fiats and Alfa's I'm used to having a folding key. Honda seem to have 'borrowed' the concealed rear door handles from Alfa, why did they miss this one? Well, that's got it off my chest at last, if you're still with me thanks for your patience! Andy |

Hey Andy, Welcome! which model did you go for?
We're all agreed here that while a great car its not without faults. Some things annoy people more than others, the wiper is a matter of opinion! The fuel filler cap is extremely irritating and doesn't look very cool on the forecourt! The rear handles are being used quite a lot these days, Seats have included them too, i quite like them but i agree with you in the key, i was used to using a card which slotted into the dash, silly key keeps stabbing me now. Glad you're enjoying the car for the most part and get that filler cap replaced under warranty, they'll know what you're talking about! Paddy |
