Change of tack.

The wife has got involved in the figures and has shown me that the deal is actually rubbish.

a) No top end discount
b) P/X is well below par

Glass's online guide has priced my current car @ £10750 for excellent condition (which the dealer said it was) down to £9560 for average condition (which it isn't).
Dealer has offered £9000 !

Off to 2 other dealers at the weekend with her in tow.

You know what dealers are like, but thats a very poor offer, better luck with the next two!

Like all sales person they are there to sell you a car and make as much money as possible. They are (usually) skilled in selling without you realising they are selling.
I find that when negotiating it is good to have evidence to show the sales person you know what you are talking about.
Print off the price for your part exchange from a couple of websites like Parkers and What Car, I also showed what Honda were selling a similar car to mine at.
If you are after a new car get the prices from internet dealers such as DrivetheDeal or Broadspeed.
If you have a budget stick to it.
Don't be taken in by the "special deals" like Gap insurance for £300 instead of £400, Click4gap do the same for less than £200 (and this site gets a small fee).
To me it is a game, the salesman wants to get as much money out of me as possible, I want to pay as little as possible!
With my purchase the part ex was at the bottom end (the second offer after saying no to the first offer), and the discount was just OK. My reason for doing part ex instead of a private sale was the convenience, we have only 1 car in the household so I avoided being without a car or owning 2 at the same time.

The upshot of this is that I will be ordering the car tomorrow

Dealer No2 has offered a changeover price of £9045 for a 'Galaxy EX i-shift'.

This is against the original offer from dealer 1 for £11,550 !

Dealer 2 was amused by the figures from dealer 1 and basically used the term 'taking the ...."

So the final arrangement is:

EX i-shift - galaxy grey
Side Protectors
Floor Mats
Rear Parking Sensors
Space Saver
Mudflaps

I forgot to mention about locking wheel nuts and a tin of touch-up so the final price may rise a little.

Fortunately the dealer already has the EX coming in during Feb and will hang on to it till March for an 07 reg.

Proper Job
