Hello one and all at Civinfo !

Hello from sunny Suffolk in the UK. I'm a proud owner of 2.2 i-CTDi EX Civic in Royal Blue Pearl with 18" Altimo alloys.

I've had the car for 6 months now and I'm still in the honeymoon period with it.

The only gripe that I have is with Honda's fuel consumption claims for the diesel powerplant as I struggle to get the average fuel consumption above 47mpg. Does anyone else struggle with mpg or is it just my heavy right foot ?

Regards to all

Trehern

Hello from sunny belfast! Welcome to the forum! Great choice in car firstly, we were recently discussing how lovely the royal blue colour is! One of the rarer ones.

I'd be delighted with 47mpg! I'm currently on less than 40! My right foots obviously heavier than yours! What sort of milage have you done so far, hopefully it will improve as things loosen up a little!

Thanks Czechplastik and Brodick for your respective replies.

The characteristics of the i-CTDi engine certainly tempts the pedal to go to the metal. It's certainly a more rev happy diesel unit than my old Audi A3 130bhp TDi and perhaps its the willingness to produce power further up the rev range that allows the fuel consumption to suffer.

I've done 12500 miles (& I'm just past the first service).

Cheers

Its not unusual to find real MPG figures to be below manufacturer claims, they produce the figures after special tests which do not accurately reflect real road conditions and driving. Is 55MPG not the official figure? I'd be very happy with 47!

What means MPG? Miles per gallon? In Germany we use Liters per 100 km.

Honda says the diesel drinks 5.3 liters (city and motorway combined) per 100 km.

I think I drive 60 of 100 km in the city an it needs 7.9 liters. Hondas specs say, it needs 6.7 liters in pure city drive.

Correct... MPG = Miles per gallon
The difference in Manufacturer testing and real life driving is pretty obvious. Manufacturers test such things on treadmills, not accounting for congestion, gradient etc, lots of variables inc. my heavy right foot!

Hi trehern and welcome.

The trouble with the Civic is that it's so inviting to get that right foot working and your fuel consumption suffers. But if you're enjoying then don't worry about it. Have fun.

Hello and welcome

47 mpg is great, i'm getting the oil burner too but not for the economy, i just want a funky looking honda rocket ship. But more than doubling my old mpg will be a bonus.

Hi there Trehern. Welcome to the forum.

As far as MPG is concerned, I understand that the longer you have the car the better the performance... Can't say for sure yet (as my signature will tell you)

Hi.

47 mpg seems about right, I have averaged 46 (measured at the pump, which is about 48 on the trip computer).

yep, even with my driving I'm getting mid 40s, so anyone who is even a little bit less, errrrr, spirited, should get 47 quite easily

welcome aboard!
