Centrally locking the car from the inside

My EX is due to be delivered end of April, and although I have been for 3 test drives I never asked if you could easily centrally lock the car from inside, being a girlie this is very important. Apologies in advance if this is a really stupid question.

P.S. Is it a mistake not going for the ambient lighting?

No it isnt a mistake its down to personal choice, it serves no purpose just looks nice!!

I was always told it is dangerous to lock yourself into a car, CZ is this still the case?

You are probably right!! however, I think it is probably more dangerous not to lock your self in when driving around London

Only danger is if you have an accident and you can't/people can't get you out. As far as I know most cars auto unlock if a major smash occurs, but don't quote me on that!

The simple answer is yes you can, courtesy of a button on the drivers door.

Thats what I thought, if it caught fire an your trapped inside etc (I always like to look on the bright side)

My old focus was good it had a function on the key whereby you pressed it once and it just opened the drivers door, twice opened all the doors. So if you were alone you could jump in the car knowing that all the other doors remained locked. I wish they did that on all cars it is a good saftey feature.

Whereabouts in London are you Emma?

Why don't they connect the locks to the airbag or pre-tention seatbelts - when they activate the doors unlock ?

It is easy to central lock yourself into the Civic, just flick the drivers door lock and they all lock.

I guess you should ask yourself what is more likely; car burst into flames (or some other unfortunate event requiring you to be rescued from your car), or some arse car-jacking, assaulting you, nicking your belongings from the boot or seat.

Cover yourself for the most likely unfortunate incident given where you are.

2 Kremmen: As far as I know they do - in case of an accident in which the airbags are activated the car locks should unlock automatically. I'm not sure about this but there should be also a valve which blocks the fuel line in such a situation.

A friend of mine was driving home from mine after a night out, her husband was asleep with his hood up hunched over so he couldnt be seen.

As she pulled up to some traffic lights 2 blokes came from nowhere and one lunged for her door as her husband sat up they ran off, he tried to follow them but she stopped him from following as he'd probably have killed them if he'd got hold of them!

Since then I always lock the doors at night when Im on my own!

Emma, i suggest you read the How To for auto door locking.

I have U/G mine a few weeks ago, the worry about locking your doors can be removed as they lock at 10mph, unlock when you turn off the ignition - the How To contains more info.

VW’s and BMW’s do the same thing, again, with the VW I ahd, this had to be turned on by VW, a £30 charge no less (had it for free on the VW as part of some warranty work)

Rob.
