Hello from Oslo, Norway

Like this forum, helped me alot in deciding and knowing more about the new Civic R. I havent test driven it yet, but i dont want the torbocheat and heard alot of good things about the R and love the looks of it, so i will probably go for it soon But DAMN its expensive in Norway!!
But this will be my first Honda, previous Peugeots, and i liked my 306GTI6 but they dont make them as good any more...

Any good tips about the R (good/bad stuff, considerations etc) is more then welcome.

Thanks

Frank

Hi and Welcome Cap!

Unfortnatley not even the Civic is quite as well built as previous Civics, but it is the coolest car in it´s class, and the Type-R is winning every hot-hatch test here in Sweden.

Yeah thanks, i read a swedish magasine yesterday, 7xGTI, Civic on top
Beat the Focus ST wich i was considering buying (50.000NOK more though). So i guess i can put in my order without a testdrive, knowing that i have tried several "GTI" turbos, but love the reving (natural breathing) engine alot more?! If its 1 thing Honda can do, it is engines ive heard, and IMO that counts for a lot!
BTW took the 2.2diesel civic for a spin, nice ride (good power), only a bit diseapointed whit plastic (cheap looking) details interior and doorhandles...

Auto Motor Sport?

There was a test in Teknikens Världs most recent issue to.
Read about it here:
Type R track test in Sweden against some real competition

Why not go for a test drive?
I would never buy anything with out trying it.
It might not suit you personally.

Agree on the "quality feel" that is lacking.
Especially things like the door handles.
This was what made me hesitate really.

See my comments in this thread:
Build Quality

But yes, Honda´s engines are great.
I also like the roadholding and gearbox of the non-R.
Haven´t driven the R myself.
They say Honda only build cars so they can have something to put their engines in!

And the Civic is just much more fun, interesting and cool than a Fo** Foc**. And we have the best forum!

As A former Peugeot driver (307 ) I can tell you that I'm more than happy to drive a Civic.

Go for a test drive, If I had followed what they say in our newspaper I would have owned a Golf or a Seat today !

I think that the building quality of a R type is the same as the rest of the civic : good but could be better ! But the longer you will wait before Ordering the better they can improve the assembly ! But dont wait too much or you will get an IX Gen civic !

Welcome Cap. Yes, type-r is expensive here. Otherwise I'd go for that. But I'm more than happy with my 1.8. 26000 km in one year, and looking good

Which dealer have you been to for the R test drive? Skotvedt, Ensjø?

I asked at Skodtvedt Ensjø, but customer service wasnt that good, so i went to another dealer which made a bit more effort to help me out, Honda at Harestua (so im ordering it there instead) I still have to wait one more week, but better then 2 months...
Have you tested it tacomodo? Or consider buying?

No, too expensive for me. I ended up going for the executive with some nifty stuff instead. I wish I had changed dealer, though. The old guy I bought it from wasn't very helpful and was your typical old guy who has been working the same job for too long with no patience.

At least I got it within two weeks, that's mostly what sold me

Oh oh, just a tip - what ever you do, do NOT go for the Bass Systems sound package. It blows and costs way too much.

Yes, thats why i chose a dealer outside of town, better customer services, better deals and cheaper services
The reasomn why i have to wait that long is cause its the first delivery of the Type R in Norway...

And no, ive seen some stuff here on the forum about the bass system and that it sucks, thx anyway

Satisfied with your Executive? 1,8?

Understand where you are coming from a pug fan my self luvd the gti 306 and 106 not to mention 205 "the original hot hatch" but unfortuanatly went jap a few years ago " im 33 by the way""
The jap market on cars is understated on quality and trust me i know over the last cars i have had ...Nothing is near to a jap build especially the engines...These are bullit proof ...Unless importing parts are ready to go and a good dealer will look after you ...
"now sorry for this one"
Did recently look into buying the new pug 207 gti the 1.6 turbo model ...Nice drive engine good although nicked from the mini cooper with high presure turbo ,torque on bottom end and easy to drive But previous test drove a type s and no comparison ...The feal of the jap cars is excellent and rugged on drive
Eventually purchased the type r this i will receive on wednesday ...And only done 1 test drive but christ cant wait .....
Dont follow your love of a company as you know them or a car model ...Once you try different you will always go to the men who know how to engineer mind captivaiting rides ...
All the best D

Thx for good post (im 33 aswell). Yes its sorry allso Peugeot has gone "cheating" as all other hothatch brands (read: turbo), as they had good engines before and ofcourse nice handling and all... Thats allso why im considering Honda now, the last one with a "real engine", So i can hardly sleep now waiting for my testdrive (a week + to go). Im sure i wont be dissapointed, and will be a proud Honda owner in november All in all if everything else is average + on the car its the engine, gearbox, handling, quality and looks that counts to me and i bet Honda Civic Type R has got it!

The colour is milano red
Will be a gt model love the cruise function although will not use it but electric foldable mirrors a must over this side of pond...
But wifey hated the idea of a racer image untill she got in the car ...Lol till we test drove the baby ...
Trust me friend over the pond glad to listen on remarks of faults but this car will put a smile on your face when you drive her ..
Had many toyotas ..ie celicas and mr2s all turbo versions there is something about the car words can not explain untill you sit in the car put the key in press the button ...
It feads back some life to you feals like a nice sport car should feal when you open her up you will feal the utter most rawness that a good honda is like
Driven the old type r and it did not do it for me, practicality i love the car is 2 in one useable under the power curve not guttless open her up fall in love ...
Bloody hell can not wait
I should be getting comision for this !!

I know you will love the car, if you dont?!!
Glad to know why
Although honda developed a new type r did not look at raw power like other manufactures have but you will understand where the engineering has gone..
All the best D
