Out of the an RX8 into the civic....
Hi all, picked up my 2006 civic 2.2 sport, traded in a 55 plate mazda rx8 for it. RX8 a nice car, bloomin quick but at 17mpg and catastrophic depreciation it had to go after only 4 months ownership.
I needed a car which was quick, reliable and abit from the norm, enter the Honda civic. It is nice to know there is a forum for the new civic. (the RX8 forum was a god send, and so is the civinfo forum!!!!!) Laters Pumatron. |

Hi Pumatron,
Really had a hard think about the RX8 myself, but so many people who had them, told me the same as you have posted. Drove one of both Specs -- great cars, but they drank it. My dentists one, less than 2 years old now, is worth b-gger all. When they first came out, I remember reading that Mazda had to set the prices to hopefully offset some of the running costs. Funny, thats what partly got me going today in my post about an engine compartment cover for the Civic . Coz the RX8 has one. |

The RX8 is a fantastic car, the engine is a genius piece of engineering, really loves to be revved (and has to be to keep in good working order). I had the 230 bhp version which red lined at 9000rpm. I will not miss filling it up with £50 of fuel and only just seeing 200 miles on the trip computer
I will not miss being paranoid regarding if it had enough oil in it, i was forever filling it with oil. I will not miss the massive problems that owners were experiencing with the engine, from starting issues to engine failure. There is a big worry on the forum with engines, it usually starts with lack of power when the engine is really hot and over 000's of miles gets worse and worse until there is apex/rotor seal failure and taadaa one new engine required please.....that will be £5000 please.....gulp. I would never own one out of manufactures warranty thats for sure. I will not miss squeezing in the weekly shop, a buggy, a 6 month old baby, the wife and myself....i am a fully trained contortionist i can tell you So onwards and upwards with the civic....
