Cheers for the info mate I got the camera in and working yesterday

I'm having a strange problem now. It all turned into a bit of a mish mash of wires and trial and error as I was having weird problems with the camera working as it should with my HU.

Head unit is a Pioneer AVH-X3500DAB

You might know what's going on because I'm scratching my head lol it's a bit long winded though unfortunately lol

The camera is now connected to the reverse light +ve and also a wire going from there to the reverse signal input on the back of the HU. The camera now works as it should when reverse is engaged, and flips back to stereo etc when out of reverse.

But..... What I'm finding weird is that it only works like this when the "camera" setting on the stereo is on "camera off" and when I turn the camera on on the HU it all gets weird and the camera doesn't work :/ it'll flip to camera mode but I get no picture. Then when I press the screen to go back to stereo etc, it automatically goes back to the camera screen after a few seconds.
I don't get it :/ the camera works fine when setting is on "camera off" :/
There's also 2 settings on the camera in the HU menu. It says "camera polarity" and I have options of "ground" "battery" or "off"

To be honest I'm out my depth lol I may just leave it as it is, working in reverse only lol

Hi....you need to have Polarity set to Battery as when you engage reverse there is a positive signal.....see page 64 of your manual Pioneer user manual

Hope that makes sense.

NEW PROBLEM !!! lol

Ok, so I've got no display at all on the heater control but and my steering wheels controls don't work. I assumed the connects 2 patch lead came out as I put it all back together.... But it hasn't. Had the display got a fuse or have I blown something ??

Cheers

Sounds like a problem with the connects2 box. Even with the patch lead out, you would get the display if it was working. I would check the wiring that goes from the loom to the box and make sure it's in correctly.

I've checked all the connections and left them unplugged for a while. Plugged it all back in and still nothing. I've searched the forum and it seems other people have had the same issue and the solution was to replace the black box I've just messaged the seller on eBay I had the kit off hoping he can sort something out

So hopefully a replacement black box will sort the display out now I need to figure out what to do with the wiring so I can get the cam work not just in revere but also when I tap the button on the screen.

Here's a little vid of my settings and what happens when I select camera. The screen goes into camera mode but I get no image. But when the camera is "off" then the camera works as it should when engaging reverse

How have you wired it up?

For this to work, the camera needs to be powered by an ignition controlled circuit (so you dont flatten the battery), it wont work if you are powering the camera off the reverse lights.

The camera +ve is wired to the reverse light and then the signal input wire is also wired to the reverse light. I've been thinking about this today and when I installed the wires I also installed an extra "spare" cable with the thought of wiring the camera up to an ignition live too.
lol I'm now thinking if I use this cable and go from the choc block where the camera +ve is connected to the reverse light to the yellow cable at the back of the HU that'll give me an ignition live feed to the camera won't it ? Or would that also turn on the reverse light constantly :/ or do I disconnect the camera +ve from the reverse light and just put that straight to the yellow ignition live on the back of the HU?

That's exactly how mine is wired up at the minute  I could just leave it as is. It works as it's supposed to ie: camera comes on when in reverse. I just can't access the camera view from the HU when I aren't in reverse. It's no big deal I suppose. Just thought as the functions there it'd be nice for it to work.

My bigger problem now is the fact the heater display isn't working lol I'm hoping a new connects 2 box will sort that out though

Unbelievable how many of these black boxes are defective!! Every other thread these days seems to mention it.

Hope you get it sorted.

Cheers pal I can't see me having too many problems. Even though it was off eBay the seller is actually dynamic sounds. I believe it's in west London somewhere and in the listing they state there's a 12 month manufacturer warranty so I'll get on to them tomorrow

Got mine from them also, they are a very reputable business and have been around for years, think I got a wiring loom for my old Focus from them 4-5 years ago.

No benefit at all although some might disagree when towing. The camera's are very wide so you can see back as well as down.
