Can you do this?

I've been investigating. I reckon it's possible to feed a cable from the radio to the "cubby" in front of the gear stick without dismantling the dash. Hold the door to the "cubby" half open and you can feel a gap behind the dash above it. My question is - if I remove the "deck" above the radio unit then can I get to the CD plug on the radio?

Cheers.

No, there is absolutely no access to the back of the radio by removing the panel you describe. There is also very little or no access from the sides of the radio after removing the centre console.

You might be able to get at the CD changer connection from below the radio after removing the centre console, but the access is pretty tight.

Removing the centre console and the panels under the steering wheel is quite easy though, if you take your time and don't force any of the clips too much. It's then not much extra work to remove the panel above the radio and take the 5 screws out to remove the whole head unit, if you find you can't get at it from below.

Before I fitted the Honda iPod connector, I thought the cable might have gone through the gap you described as there is a reasonable amount of space above the cubby hole and below the radio (It doesn't, a hole has to be made in the top of the cubby hole to feed the cable through.) You might find that if the cable was run through the space you describe that it could rattle around a bit.

Just had the Dension fitted yesterday!

The job was supposed to take one hour but actually took 3! Was supposed to cost £150 but actually cost £175 because of labour! In sayting that, it does work and sound incredibly good, the wire/connector for the IPOD comes out in the little cubby hole (with door) just under the stereo, its all controlled directly through the steering wheel and there is no need to set up playlist (although I beleive you can), I have just had it on random which works well for me. If anyone needs the contact details for the company who did it please let me know (In Newcastle).

Take a look here: Honda supplied iPod link - Civinfo Wiki

and here: IPOD Cable

Sorry I disagree, IMO the ability to use the steering controls and the fact it is completely hidden outweighs the reduced fuctionality

Completely agree with you Alan, with the addition that the iPod stays charged.

Being able to skip playlists, tracks and control the volume from the steering wheel is brilliant, and I'm glad that I bought the iPod connection.

I don't think it is that limited at all, with the exception that track names on the screen would have been nice. Even if you don't go down the route of creating specific Honda named playlists, you can pick any album/playlist/track that you want to listen to, and then connect the iPod up to hear it.
