I don't know, you would need someone with an EX to confirm this.

Although, since the Honda iPod connector essentially mimics a CD changer, I would have thought the random functionality would still work on the individual playlists.

Also, on mine, selecting disc (playlist) 8 automatically turns on the RDM function - does it do this on yours?

Honda Ipod Connector Review

My 5G 30Gb Video iPod only switches off if the hold switch on the top of the iPod is slid across. If I don't slide the hold switch across, the iPod stays switched on, and gradually flattens the (iPod) battery.

I leave my ipod in the unlocked position (so no red shows round the hold switch) I have never noticed a problem with it flattening.

Thinking about it now, I also changed the backlight settings on the iPod so that it wasn't 'always on'. Maybe it was this which was keeping the iPod switched on, rather than my erroneous assumption that it was the hold switch. I shall investigate at lunchtime.......

Ok, just been out to the car to play with the iPod connection - And now I am more confused

When I first fitted it, the iPod definitely wouldn't switch off without unplugging it, hence the comments in my original post.

Just tried it again and regardless of the position of the hold switch, or the setting for the backlight timer, the iPod switches off 2 minutes after the car is turned off - which is good, but makes me look.

So it looks like both those settings on the iPod were complete red herrings.

Off to update the wiki now........

I have to say a thanks for the research - although you did have me sitting in the car for 15mins in the dark and rain the other night, my wife just assuming it was because I'd got a new car

I also took your idea of naming the playlists - you can in fact put them in a playlist folder (File->New Folder on iTunes) then you can hide them from your main playlist listing.

That could answer another query I have.

Until the last firmware update on the ipod (to 1.2.3 I think) I never noticed a problem, however now after a traffic report interrupt it sometimes stutters when the music restarts. Forward winding to the next song and then back to the previous song stops it.
Perhaps to save battery the ipod now goes into a deeper sleep during traffic reports so when the ipod restarts the hard drive has to fire up causing the stuttering.

I thought I was mad thinking the firmware update could muck things up (Apple support aren't aware of the problem), but if the auto powering down of the ipod has changed, then it would make sense. (Even if what I have writen doesn't).

The firmware on my iPod is 1.2.3 as well, but I don't know if it was updated to this before or after I had tried the iPod in the car which could possibly explain the different sleep behaviour ?
