£90 for the fascia, fitting and moving old head unit to glove box all part of the total cost of install. Don't really notice the slight colour difference...especially since cleaned rest of dash!!! [dealer cant match colour off vin number as their system won't allow to order the fascia for a type s - dont want you messing!!]

Let me know what they quote you........can always send one to my uncle in Sydney! Or hand deliver later this year!!

Word of warning though...Alpine double din surround slightly larger than honda double din space....requires a little adjustment with an angle grinder! Tho blowed if i can see where they did it..wouldn't have known if fitter hadn't told me..which they did as told them their handywork going on web!

I've got it going in for the 1000Km service on Tuesday so I'll be hassling the dealer then... I'll see what they quote me (if they can even get it)...

Your offer is very much appreciated

Hey Warriorpete,

Very nicely installed matey and looks good to.

Im into my ICE and am considering the Civic as my next car maybe and so am watching the install threads with interest.
The thing so far which is worrying is the need to retain the original head unit somewhere as it also houses the heater/screen controls?

So far I have had 3 ideas of what I'd probably try to do if I do get one :

1. Try to get hold of another radio/control unit from a wrecked car and hack the required controls out of it to use below a single DIN head unit.

2. Try to make another bank of switches or controls to replce the needed ones and again mount under a DIN sized unit. Or

3. Will a single DIN unit fit here (photo borrowed from Guitaralmond pictures of his car, hope he dont mind?):

Just an idea as it looks big enough, of course I cannot see how deep it is though.

Edit: Actually why do you need to keep the existing radio, is it something to do with the information screen and not because of controls?

Ian

Do you mean like this thread - adapter Double Din
Dont forget you'll need to order fascia for RHD [77251SMGE00ZA]. Doubt dealer will fit as affects warranty but you can ask!!!!

Reason for leaving head unit in available here Changing the head unit - Civinfo Wiki
In answer to 1&2 - if you have the time and the know how go for it. in answer to 3 - doubt it very much not as big as it looks!

Hey,

Thanks for replying matey.

At the weekend I finally sat in a Civic in the showroom and like you say while it's wide & tall enough I dont think that storage box is deep enough for a standard DIN size radio.
Only way to tell is to remove lower dash panel. Shame as it would be an ideal compromise perhaps.

I'd certainly have a go at ideas 1 & 2 if I could get hold of a spare radio unit cheap enough.

Got to have a test drive first though & then make up my mind if this is the car for me or not.

Here is proof...........
part no.jpg

and

part no 2.jpg

These are official Honda parts ordered via official Honda dealer.... maybe your dealer was just being lazy!!!!!!!

Just noticed tho......on box it says "panel assembly LHD" - but it definitely contained a RHD fascia. Maybe Honda don't know what they are doing????

Hi everyone,

I am from Singapore and had been trying to get the double-din fascia for my FN2 for the last few months. The local dealer wouldn't order it for me as its not in their official parts list. They even let me search their list to assure that they are not fooling me.

Anyway, any of the dealers in UK takes mail order? I need the RHD fascia to complete my ICE set-up.

Thanks for any advice on this.

Yes, Huets will; they did my Double Din conversion many moons ago and have already shipped units to Malta and Jersey (!).

Check my double-din fascia thread for details...

I'd bet it's got something to do with the radio tuning frequencies or DAB or some such...
