Upgrading to Infinity's
Hi there, posted this on the How To forum but wonder if I could get some answers on this section.
Thanks! Ok looking to upgrade my speakers and have a couple of questions: Speakers I see that the Infinity REF 6510cs speakers have been around for some time now and wonder if there are better ones out there that will do a better job, also they seem to be harder to get and cost more than some of the bargains that were being had around last year from ebay. The Infinity REF6520CS and REF6520SCS can be bought for the same price, the SCS versions are actually shallower than the standard 6510cs's so should have no fitting problems. The only thing with these newer speakers are that they have an impedence of 2.7 ohms compared to 4 ohms of the 6510cs. However Viper8 has had these fitted with no problems and I wonder if they are suitable (and better) for the job. Speaker Rings P64, do you have a link to where you can get the Alpine speaker rings? I would prefer to drill as few holes as possible. Also I wonder if you are drilling straight into the metal will this mean that this area is more prone to rusting (particularly since it would be in contact with some water from the windows. |

I got the ring from my local car audio dealer, I assume they are a leftover from the alpine sps-171 speakers, which they sold to a customer that had a car other than Civic 7gen. about the drilling, you only expose a small area inside the hole, you can paint it, I don't think there will be any rust. After all, it is a 4mm hole.

Cool thanks there. I suppose I am just worried about doing irrepairable damage to my new car!
This will be on my list of things to do at one point as I do fine the normal speakers very "trebly" and not very good. |

Haven't had anything installed yet!
It's on my list of things to do so really just doing research right now! Let me know how you get on with your system! I'm really only looking at upgrading the speakers so don't want to get into fitting an amp or anything like that so I assume my options are limited. |

I read that a lot of people installed the Infinity's, Why?
Because a lot of them are complaining about the highs too loud. Are the Infinity's the only ones that will fit? Are there any people who have a Polk or an Boston set installed in the front doors? |

I installed Polk db-6501 in my front doors because I liked them better than the Infinitys.
Slightly warmer sound (more musical in my ears), and - yes - a slightly softer high end. Polks cost a tiny bit more than the Infinitys. |

The infinity's aren't trebly if you fit them properly. If you soundproof the doors at the same time as you fit the speakers, and seal the edge of the door trim with speaker foam, the infinity's are great. If you're going to do the rears to, make sure you use speakers from the same family, so that you get equal tonality from all corners.

My impression was that the HU amp was just as bad as the speakers. I replaced the amp before the speakers so I never got to hear the difference.

Went to my local dealer, and listened to Infinity, Focal 165KF and Hertz hsk165.
You can really hear a huge difference, Infinity to much highs, a bit harsch, the Hertz a bit sissling but very good, the Focals sounded awesome. I know they are almost triple the price... Does anyone has a set of Focals installed? |

I work for a car audio specialist. IMO speakers that are made in europe sound better than speakers made in the far east.
Therefore manufactures like Focal and DynAudio to name a few would sound alot better. Also as a general rule of thumb - these tend to be more expensive. You need to decide what type of sound you are expecting and at what price range you are willing to go up to. |
