Do I need to replace front & rear speakers?
If I decide to bite the bullet and improve the audio quality in the car, should I replace all 4 speakers, or does replacing the front 2 improve the quality enough to get away with? Also (I know the search is my friend), do the standard tweeters need replacing?

you HAVE seen the thread in For Sale RR?
only a few hours left (though I guess they will be re-listed) But as you've probably worked out, I'm the wrong person to offer advice on speakers |

I'd just replace the front speakers (including the tweeters) and do what you're supposed to do and wind the fader to nearly full front - the rear speakers, even if good, tend to just spoil the effect.
Next phase would be a small sub hidden somewhere in the car, and final phase would be replacement (or removal) of rear speakers. |

I've just replaced the front speakers and put the fader to almost all front.
I think I'd consider differently if I had people in the back often (or dares say it if I had kids) but for me it's just fine. I'm consdiering the Sub in the passenger seatwell like somebody on here did (apologies for forgetting who) |
