Messing with DICE dip switches

Hi guys

For those of you that have installed DICE boxes in to sat nav equipped civics, what have you found to be the best settings. Looking through the manual I would want to leave the iPod working so leave those switches to on, but I was wondering what would happen if I put the car switches to on as well?

Will be installing later tonight or tomorrow but was looking to miss some of the messing around with the switches!

Right, have managed to install it and it would seem that the only way that the dip switches for the car work are turned to the CD player setting (i.e in the up 'off' position). Otherwise the head unit doesn't even recognise it!

The iPod switches can be either way round, but to be honest not sure why you'd turn it off as you can't navigate it!

You can use the controls somewhat. By changing disc on the display you can use the steering controls to move between different things. Disc 1 on the display lets you move back and forward between tracks in a playlist, and disc 2 lets you move between playlists using the controls. Disc 5 seems to let you switch between iPod cable and 3.5mm jack.

Has anyone found any more?

Anyone else have this odd problem with the DICE adapter:

If I plug my iPod (Touch) in, _then_ switch the engine on, the iPod starts playing with single track repeat enabled, and shuffle disabled.

Also the repeat and random buttons on the head unit both only change the repeat settings, not shuffle.

I didn't realise that you could change repeat and shuffle using the radio controls - which button is it and I'll try it out.

Also, what settings do you have for your dip switches?

Where have you mounted it so you can get access?

Squirrelz,

Yes, I have this problem, but I hadn't been able to work out what was causing it. It seemed that the ipod was having its settings changed by the dice unit, but I don't take the ipod out of the car too often so I don't get the problem too often either.
Its a little frustrating and its nice to know how to avoid it.

Does that mean that if you plug it in after switching on the engine is doesn't do it?

I'm about to fit a DICE unit, and these dip switches are a bit ambiguous..

Is there any difference in the way the steering wheel controls and radio controls interact with the ipod if you have the ipod dip switches on the DICE set to up or down ?
Is the only observable difference that the ipod itself becomes locked or not ?

(have an EX if that makes any difference at all)

I did try them out when I installed the unit. In the end I went for the car config switches off and the ipod controls on. I believe this means you can select your track on the ipod control itself. Setting it the other way means you've got less options.

The manual suggests that this mode is better becasue it has a fasta response time as there is less data transfer between the iPod and radio.

Non-Sat Nav models.

The only problem I have is the one mentioned by squirrelz in that the iPod seems to keep getting set on single track repeat. Its a bit of a nuisance, but I don't think that this has anything to do with the switch settings.

Sorry, thought I'd got email notify on, so didn't realise there had been replies

The dip switches are set for ipod control, think there's only one setting that works for non-satellite head units.

I've also had a couple of issues recently where the DICE unit doesn't work after starting the car, and I've had to turn the ignition off and on to sort it. Hopefully it's not the beginning of the unit failing :-/

Both the RDM and RPT buttons change the repeat settings, cycles through "repeat 1" "repeat all" "repeat off". Would be great if the RDM button turned shuffle off and on, but that one is slightly easier to change on the ipod touch.

And yes plugging in the ipod after turning on the engine avoids the problem. Although having said that, it doesn't _always_ do it if I plug it in before.
