After Market Speaker upgrade
Has anyone replaced the 'standard' door speakers themselves? or know how to remove the door panles to get at the speakers?
I'd like to upgrade the speakers on my 1.8es to give some more mid and bass range-checked with dealer and coaxials £250 a pair fitted which is steep for pioneer coaxials that are half that price ! Thanks Andy 1.8ES nighthawk black |

Speaker Upgrade
Hi Guy's
Just had my front speakers replaced with a pair of Audio Design ones and the difference is amazing. Much better sound than the cheap and nast Honda ones and only £65 the pair. I'd still like a little more bass but then that's more to do with the head unit, which we can't change. All in all I am very happy with the new sound. I tried some Pioneers but they didn't come close to the AD ones. I would not recommend the Honda upgrades, just put some in yourself. (see my other post about getting the door trim off: http://www.civinfo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=234 ). You will need to get some spacers and when I remember which ones were used on mine I'll let you know. I had mine fitted as I'm too lazy, but the total cost was still only £120, which is less than the basic Honda upgrade. Now all I need is for Dension to come up with an iPod adaptor and I'm sorted! Somehow 150 tracks on an mp3 disk just doesn't seem like enough. I seem to remember being so excited when my last car had a cd changer and I could listen to 6 cd's. Now I want 4000 songs! progress huh.... cheers Roger |

Did you have the tweeters replaced as well? If not, can they be 'gotten' at as well?
Was there any problem with the depth of the new speakers, and the clearance after refitting the door trim. |

Roger.
My Honda dealer assures me that the Dension ice>link that I use for my 2004 Accord will work with the Civic head unit. When I get the Civic I will let you know if this is true. It is being fitted as part of the purchase. Hopefully this will be in a couple of weeks after my Accord is repaired following a prang by a hit and run driver in the local car park! |

Hi Guy's
Sorry for not getting back sooner. I've been very busy and just haven't had a chance to surf. I will find out all the details on Monday and let you know. Karkak, No I didn't have the tweeters replaced and having heard the new sound I don't think I'll bother. The AD speakers have tweeters in them too so that helps clean up the top end. I am probably going to have some kind of bass upgrade though as it could do with a little tightening up. Not sure how yet. I'm a bit of a Flat Response purist so I don't want that 'boy racer crusin' up the sea front' bass sound, just clean & tight. Honda 100, I'll be over the moon if what you say works. My audio guy thinks not and neither does my dealer, especially as the civic head unit is so new and Matsushita (Panasonic) rather than the older pioneer models? Anyway. If it works I'll be on the phone to desion pronto. cheers. Off to enjoy the sun. I love the football season because all the roads are clear when there's a match on and I don't watch it. Cool! (I still hope we win though) |

OK, Here we go:
The Speakers I have are Audio Design PTX 165. They are the lower wattage (60) one's as the head unit will not drive anything bigger with any competence. The spacers are from 'Car sound supplies' (dealer supplier in Derby) and they are for the Astra Van, part no: G198. When you are fitting any new speakers it's vital to get the phase right or they'll sound awful. So test them before you screw 'em back in! (not patronising, just an easy mistake that I've made a few times) I'm toying with putting a tune-up sub in the boot to help with the base now....hmmmm. Best of luck. Roger |

hi generationgav,
No. Just the spacers came from CSS and they apparently only supply to the trade. I have mine fiitted by a local car audio specialist and the items above are what he used. I don't know where he got the AD speakers from but they're German. Hope that helps Roger |

I might ask my local sound shop in Derby and give them your findings. |
