help please with ipod

Hi, i'm new to all this and i hope someone can help me. I recently took delivery of an EX, i asked holdcroft (the supplying dealer) to fit the honda ipod adaptor. The problem i have is i cannot get to the random facility for discs 1-7. The cd unit does have a random facility because when i play standard cd's i can select random via the sat nav screen. but i can't access it when playing the ipod as there is no button on the dashboard and i can't get to see a random button through the sat nav screen when operating the ipod. i can change bass, treble, etc but the Random feature dosn't show. someone please tell me i have not wasted £285 getting this fitted. Am i being a turkey, can anyone help me?

Sorry but you have not spent your money wisely IMHO. The Honda adapter is expensive and its functionality is not great.

A Dice box or similar would of cost you less than £90 (fitting extra but its not hard to do it yourself) and works very well. Actually I thought the Honda adapter was thought to be so bad it got pulled from being on sale?

I don't think the car (EX, anyway) allows you to select random play on discs 1-7, although I may be wrong.

Disc 8 plays the whole iPod randomly
Disc 9 plays the current playlist at the time you connect the iPod to the Honda

So if you are playing randomly within your playlist before connecting the two, disc 9 will continue the random play.

Alternatively, it might be possible to create smart playlists for discs 1-7, and build the randomness into the smart playlist logic.

I have one fitted in my car - you cannot do random on discs 1-7 or 9

And Disc 8 is random - whole iPod.

If the sound quality wasn't so much better than MP3 CDs I wouldn't use it...

The random function works on all the playlists (1 through 7) and I use it all the time.

The random needs switched on after you select the playlist though. So, if you were on playlist 1 and switched to playlist 2, the random function cancels itself, and you need to re-enable it.

For a non satnav equipped car, this means pressing the RDM button on the headunit.

For a car with satnav (I can't check this as I don't have satnav, but from the manual)

Press the 'AUDIO' button

Push down the selector on the interface dial. Turn the interface dial to select 'TRACK RANDOM'. Press ENT on the interface dial, and 'RANDOM' should display.

Repeat this process to turn it off.

Would be good to know if this works in a satnav equipped car.

Hi, thanks for your note, unfortunately with the sat nav version the only way you can select random is through the sat nav screen. There is no RDM button on the head unit and when the ipod is connected unit you can adjust the bass and treble, etc but the random facility in the screen disappears. Have posted another note as have found a way of shuffling through itunes.

No bother,

Strange that they've blanked out the random function for the satnav equipped cars.

Thought it might work, but obviously couldn't try it as I don't have satnav.

Good that you've found another way round it.
