I too would prefer just a 3.5mm aux input. Like many, I don't have an i-Pod, and it allows anything with a headphone sucket or aux-out to be connected. Not impressed at all.

I only know the little I do at the moment because I rang the guys at HUK accessories in Slough after reading this thread. Apparently they are in the middle of testing ( playing ) with them as we speak. I was given a price of £150 but I don't know wether this was before or after vat and probably wouldn't include the fitting.

There has been no official communication between Honda UK and there dealers as far as I am aware as to pricing or exactly when they are going to be available to buy, but it is coming.

In spite of the cost it is probably worth having it done with a Honda kit, they should know how to dismantle the dash, also if there is a problem later on you just take it to the dealer.

After market kits tend to be flakey on reliability and/or conflict with existing vehicle software.

£150 including fitting and VAT and potentially discountable *might* be acceptable... but that's really an absolute maximum.

Just seen this today , might help a bit but looks like it could be a bit more that £225

( couldn't copy this in so I 've typed it, excuse format please )

08A28-SMR-KIT Adaptor for i-pod kit retail figures £146.59 or £225 FITTED

Links i-pod to car stereo-includes adaptor for i-pod base unit 08a281j6100 and adaptor for i-pod attachment kit 08b28smr600 -----2 PIN BUS CORD 08A31 0H6000 required to allow combination with factory fitted nav system.

( ordered one but currently on back-order )

08A31-0H6-000 Required for vehicles with sat nav £91.90 or £110 fitted

Also from a web listing it seems that honda may be developing a portable sat nav device , currently most dealers are offering Road Angels as Honda's recomended device.

That's sort of how I see it , but I've ordered both bits , lead and kit just to see.....might have to wait a bit for the kit still.

Yes, just seen that one. So there's no definite info on this yet, even about pricing. We'll have to wait and see.

Obvious isn't it, the money they save by not putting those extra doors on the Civic can be used for fitting the iPod connection

Either way it's a cockup. Not putting an Aux link on intially (even though it's included on the "lesser" Jazz) was a shocking oversight, but expecting people to pay 300+ for just an ipod link is frankly amazing.

Maybe we should have a word with our new friends at Top Gear magazine? Just a thought

Not a bad thought. Recently they've added a mention to their price list if the car has an iPod link. Perhaps the Civic should have a warning instead.

I'm going to email whatcar, the whole things a bit of a joke. Has anyone seen the Harmon & Kardon drive + play? its hardwired to the stereo and gives a seperate screen and control knob mounted wherever you want it. Its about £140 inc fitting @ Halfords. Although im pretty sure it would mean drilling through the dash which would no doubt invalidate warranties. This has struck a nerve!

I emailed Whatcar.com a lengthy email about Honda's accessories pricing and IPOD 'scandal'. I'll keep you posted on any replies I get!
