I looked at the Harman Kardon unit, but not very sure at all that it'd be compatible with the HU's in our cars....

From what I can recall from memory, that needs an aerial in port to hook up to the HU, and I can't see one on the back of our units....

They do a Harman Kardon Wireless version of the Drive & Play, but then you're just getting back into the realms of iTrips and the like......

I particularly liked it at first for it's Blue screen which would fit nicely with ours, and the scroll wheel thingy reminds me of BMW's iDrive system...

Come on Honda ----- You should be ASHAMED.

Look at how VW look after their customers (With Ipod's anyway)

Long post - sorry

OK - I think a little perspective here.

From a manufacturers point of view there are (in my opinion anyway!) going to be two areas where they are going to never win:

1 - The audio system (quality or lack of features etc.)
2 - Sat nav (where they will never compete with after market companies)

A car manufacturer has a seven year life cycle to look after whereas Pioneer, Kenwood can introduce stuff every 8 months.

Years ago Mercedes & BMW took flak in the press for not offering standard radios, now I suppose they are slated for exactly the opposite – stereos and sat navs that are too integrated with vehicles.

Sure Honda should do better and they probably are working on it, but hey I chose the car (or rather my wife did) because of the Style, Space, Performance - the look of the dashboard etc. along with other intangibles.

VW, Audi, Toyota all build great cars but I know what is most important to me on a day to day basis.

One thing I think car manufacturers should do is liaise with the likes of Pioneer – I'm sure they could build a better cheaper system while maintaining the “look” of Honda.

Finally - fact of life, all car oem options and extras are over priced.

Rant over, and yes I will be first in line for the iPod kit when available.

Sorry Mate,

Disagree. If VW can fit an IPOD solution to my Golf for £150, then I would expect Honda to do a similar job for similar money. The actual cost of the parts is peanuts to Honda, so they are making money out of fitting it, and in the process 'stitching' the car owner.

Honda know that the IPOD is an emotive subject, we have seen the Jazz v's Civic debate in the past - This would have been a perfect oportunity for the big H to win some Browny points, not lose them.

Unfortunately the marketing people appear so arrogant as to think people will pay this.

Offer it at 100 quid fitted, and you'll get a HUGE percentage of existing owners bbuying it. £300+ fitted, you're going to get a handful at best.

But what cost for all the other extra's in a Golf? The SatNav alone is worth the price increase of the EX over the Sport Civic, excluding all the other toys like HFT, HID, Auto Wiper/Lights etc.

Surely you liked the car enough without the iPod connector to buy it in the first place so why consider a Corsa over something so trivial.

Don't little boys in baseball caps by Corsas and stick silly bits onto them?

I have read many different Honda webpages (Finland, Sweden Germany, UK), and they say about the loom (2 PIN BUS CORD) that Pottsy ordered, is only required for Civic with Navigation.

Part Number: 08A31-0H6-000.

ONLY FOR CARS WITH FACTORY FITTED NAVIGATION SYSTEM - REQUIRED TO FIT 8CD CHANGER OR ADAPTER FOR iPOD WITH FACTORY FITTED NAVIGATION SYSTEM

http://www.honda-access.com/uk/en/products/index.jsp

When I look at the Sport model accessories, it doesn't mention anything about a 2 PIN BUS CORD needed.

So maybe the picture that Roger Harris chared for us from the back off the HU, the white connector might be for the Navigation, and those who don't have Navigation can connect the Connects2 adapter straight to the white connector?

I have sent a question about it on the Connects2 forum.

I hope that this would be the solution for non Ipod owners that can connect a mp3-player finally to the Civic...

PS. Sorry for double-posting...

Completely out of context here. I could have bought a BMW M3, but didn't. The price of the car is not an issue - never has been.

Tydo,

Absolutely agree with you on this one. If anyone's like me, they would have researched the Civic to hell before buying it. I knew full well that it didn't come with a iPOD link (I've got a Nano). But to be honest, the amount of things I HAVE got, outweigh the things I haven't.

YES, Honda should've thought about it before, but they didn't.
YES, Honda ARE charging way too much to fit it in.
YES, car manufacturers make loads of money on optional extras.

However, there's not a lot we can do about it. There really are two options here:

1) Pay for it (+£300.00)
2) Get an iTRIP. (+£19.99) This is a small unit which plugs in to the iPOD and transmits (radio waves to the cars' aerial) the output of the iPOD.

I've tried my brothers iTRIP and it works a treat in my car.

The i-trip isn't great, the sound quality is poor , far too much interferance to be truly useable.

Which ice>link have you ordered? Is it the one from the French site which said that it worked with a 2006 Civic? If not where have you seen a Civic compatible ice>link as I have been scouring the UK sellers but can't find anyone who offers one.

Me too mate - I'd like to know which Dension ice>Link you've ordered as I have a mate who works in an ice/alarm specialist in the UK and he talks to the rep from Dension almost weekly, with the same answer everytime - not available yet....

I have a mail at home from Denison customer support (Yes , they actually answered) giving me confirmation that the unit works in the 2006 Euro Civic. I'm pretty sure said mail also tells me which unit to order

If nobody beats me too it by this afternoon I will post said email here.

could u also take a picture of the cable that connect the ice>link to the radio.
I had the dealer install the cabel for a cd-changer. hoping that I could somehow connect my ipod to it (use some 3rd party connection)
It would be nice if I could plug the ice>link into the cd-changer cable.
would save having to pull-out the dash

That would be really helpful then there can be no confusion about which one to order.

The cost of the options wasz almost a deal-breaker for me, the dealer stating that Honda was a 'premium brand'. I may now disgree after experiencing the build quality and have also considered parting with tyhe Civic early in to our relationship.

A bit like living with a supermodel,I am still in love with all of the things that originally attracted me but the everyday tolerance needed is a bit wearing!

You've got my full attention mate. I'm really interested in how this will end. About a month ago i rung up Dension's official dealer here in Istanbul and they claimed, without a hint of hesitation, that they had an ipod solution from dension for the new euro civic. They said that they would charge 184 pounds if i paid with a credit card and about 165 pounds if i paid with cash(Not bad right?). I was very interested at the time, but the problem was, i didn't have an ipod . Now i have an ipod on delivery and i will become more and more impatient to connect it to my car. Please let us know about the details.
