Speaker Rings

Should the front co-axial speaker upgrade come with speaker rings?

I ordered the upgrade with my car and as far as I know I have it but I have no rings. According to the accessories site the rings come with the upgrade.

I'm going to have a look at the speakers tomorrow to see if I actually have the upgraded speakers.

my front co-axials came with rings - but the rings says bassworks on them - unlike the rings on the rear (bassworks) speakers which are 'just' plain silver.

which confused the heck out of me for a while....

and doesn't really answer your question definatively, sorry

TTDegs,

Interesting you mention this. I have the upgraded Concert Pack on my car (not worth the £625 I paid for it IMO). In my car, the rings say Bassworks in the back doors and are plain silver in the front doors. I've been noticing since I had the car that I was getting crackling noises when the sound system was turned up. It transpires that Weybridge Honda where I bought the car from fitted the front speakers in the back and the back speakers in the front.

When I asked them why I was getting crackling, they said I was listening too loudly!!!! So I went to Chiswick Honda (my local dealer) and they were the ones who told me of the problem.

They got the rings in the right positions and the speakers in the wrong postions!!!

that might be worth a look for me then...

as reported elsewhere, I can't listen to mine on anything like decent volume unless the bass is turned right down

cheers for that - I feel a screwdriver session coming on!

at least it'll give me an excuse to get the infinties out of the box

EXACTLY what happened to me! Except this was the final straw after many many problems, so my dealer swapped my 16" wheels for the 17" Pentas for free

Before, with them the wrong way round it sounded absolutely abysmal as you might imagine. Crackling etc etc.

The two speakers are COMPLETELY different looking (the coaxials are bright yellow, they look lovely).

I left the bassworks rings on the front, as they look nicer than the ones on the back which are silver but plain.

Hi Basegreen,

Have you got the Concert Pack, or the Basswork Pack? Apparently, somehow, they are different. You say that they are bright yellow, but mine are black...

Basegreen,

Sorry for the bad quality; taken via my mobile phone (E900), using the flash and it was at the dead of night! Here are the pictures of my speakers.

The first one is fitted in the front, you can just about make out the bright orange, and the second one is in the back.

Do you reckon that's right?

from this thread -> front / rear speaker swap?

I got the pics of the speakers from the honda accessories site

in the concert pack you get
coaxial (front):

bassworks (rears):

if you get just the bassworks system, I think you get one set of rings
with the concert pack, 2 sets - which may be fitted the wrong way round

as options - bassworks upgrade is the rear speakers and amp
concert is coaxial fronts, plus bassworks rears and amp

worth £650? errrr......

Actually, I think the dual cone + bassworks is the concert pack.. I have coaxials+bassworks!

Anyway, the speakers look to be the right way round. It was uncomfortable sitting in the drivers seat with bass speakers by the legs, you'd notice pretty much immediately IMO.

Concert pack = 2 rings
Bassworks+coaxials = 2 rings
Bassworks = 1 ring

I'd recommend getting the bassworks ring on the front, it looks quite good.

you could well be right baseworks

I hope not! But I think you are

concert pack is £650

bassworks is £525
dual cone is £170
coaxial is £220

speaker rings are £40 (per pair I guess)

Hi TTDegs and Basegreen,

Thanks very much for all your help on this one! It does seem after all that I now (finally) have them fitted correctly.

Sounds so much better too. Do you know which make of speaker they are?

P.S. I paid an extra £625 for the Concert Pack. It's great, but certainly NOT worth the money IMO.

I don't know who is the OEM for Honda speakers - I'm guessing the standard ones were made by Poundland.

When I asked for the free speaker upgrades as part of my goodwill gesture, I specified the Coaxials rather than the dual cones.

ONly problem with this, is you get double tweeter coverage. I'm toying with the idea of removing the tweeters to see if it helps matters. At the moment though, it sounds okay. I need to go back into a bog standard one again and compare.

I've got a billion other more important things to be getting on with though.

JPDirect, I went to Trident Weybridge and thought they were rubbish, kept me waiting over an hour for a booked test drive, so bought from Thames Ditton who were the best dealer in the area (even though i live 10 miles from them and others are much nearer)

I'm glad I didn't pay up for the "Pondland" rubbish (n1 Chris ) I am now thinking about upgrading my sets. Rings or no rings

I was suggesting that the standard speakers were made by poundland. They really are very nasty indeed!
