Question iPod Connector - FULL control???

I was told by my dealershiip today that the connector allows playlist, cd and track selection from the head unit or stalk controls.

Can anyone out ther either confirm, or, as I rather suspect - pour scorn on this claim before I order one?

HELP!!!!!

Thanks for the pointer.
Perhaps I should have read this before ordering mine from the dealer! A discussion about the functionality of the iPod link before it is fitted I think.

Another idea suggested to me today - try an iTrip plugged into your iPod and broadcast your tunes to your car radio via FM! £15-£20

This option has been mentioned a few times; it allows no control and the quality just isn't on par with the ipod link.

It's just an AUX link into the head unit. There is some rudimentary control of tracks (CH+ on the stalk), and volume.

There's no on screen info, no ability to control using the ipod. Selection of playlists might be possible, but I didnt figure it out.

It seemed to randomly select albums from the ipod.

I didnt have instructions, but it's very poor in terms of integration, and unless it was chucked in free, forget it.

I have used an iTrip and a Kensington FM transmitter and much prefer the hard wired solution. Part of my problem with interference might be that my radio has decidedly dodgy reception on national channels, let alone low power FM transmitters in the car.
One of the reasons for Friday's visit to the dealer is to get a new radio cable installed and I took the opportunity to get the link put in at the same time. Having second thoughts now though. I will ask to see the link in action before I proceed I think.

Such a disappointment that cars like the Toyoto Aygo and Citroen C1 can come with proper Aux-in as standard yet our cars costing sometimes twice as much get a rubbish, semi-functional afterthought sold at a high price.

Considering how much these leads cost and the lack of functionality - I would rather replace the existing unit with something more capable but I believe the built location limits the options - if there are any!

I remember somewhere that someone was looking into an alternative unit - anyone?????????

Somebody got it done, but it was expensive and you loose the display above the radio; so you can't even get your climate control settings...not much good!

yer if some comes up with a easy to fix hard wire solution mite be interested or cheap full control ipod idea might be interested but happy with my setup for now . could be worse you could pay best part of £30k for a 350z no mp3 socket ipod etc , not even mp3 wma ready system no track listings 1" display at best thats hard to see down were our chubby hole is. so I'm happy its not like Nissan's joke of a setup also no sat nav on a £30k car , be thankful for what we got i think , yer a £8-10k car got mp3 socket but no screen and no skip etc i bet.

Having read the instruction manual to the Honda link this morning before it was due to be fitted, and then rejecting it, the system is very limited.

You have to create 7 playlists named 'Honda1, Honda2' etc. The iPod then emulates a CD changer so you can chose each playlist from the head unit, or steering wheel controls. There is also one setting, 'Honda8' which is shuffle mode. (apologies if this is not quite right, it was only a quick read, but I have certainly got the basics correct)

This is all very rudimentary and makes no sense if you want to play individual tracks, CD's or playlists as you go along, which you can do with the Dension units.

Interestingly the unit is made in the USA and is a large, iPod sized, metal casing which is mounted by some equally substantial ironwork.

You would have thought that they would have just sourced Dension or another firms kit and rebranded it.

Perhaps the person who was in charge of the development project does not have an iPod, because they show little understanding of the possibilities!

Honda100,
Thats a bit more than disappointing, is disgusting - there are several other options that offer the same functionality for a lot less (+ fitting !!!) and aren't as bulky as you describe.

Is it such difficult task? (Shame I know I can't do it )

Definitely a wasted opportunity on the part of Honda. My courtesy car for the day was a Jazz which had a clearly labeled Aux port. Not as good as hard wired to the head unit from the iPod universal socket, but much better than the Civic which has nothing.

Like I said back in 2006, long before it was available it's an incredibly overpriced, underspecced pointless add on. So annoying.

£50 for an AUX cable, or £100 for a good, well integrated ipod link would be fair.
