Lost sound from ALL speakers after front speaker upgrade
I'm hoping this is just some stupid mistake on my behalf. I fitted the same Infinity speakers as Pottsy to replace my front speakers. All wired up and the sound was great. Everything was fitted except the door panels and all the equipment was fitted securely. The only thing left to do was put the door panels on. After I did that I lost sound to ALL SIX speakers. The display shows the radio/CD/MP3 playing but I don't hear anything from anywhere in the car?!?!?!
I'm kinda hoping that there's a "speaker fuse" or "amp fuse" somewhere that might have blown but I haven't been able to find it yet. Please Help! |

If any speaker wire has touched the car body, then this could blow the fuse in the radio. Not having seen the back of the radio, I can't comment on whether it's changeable.
Software-wise, disconnecting the battery for a minute will reset the car, might be a good place to start. |

I don't get it. THe fact that it was all working fine until I put the panel back on the drivers side door... I can't understand why that would have stopped EVEry speaker. It has to be something to do with the head unit itself I guess.

Can you remove the panel again and double check to see if ANY bit of any speaker wire could either touch another speaker wire, or touch any metalwork on the car?
On mine I had to solder the wires to the woofer and bend the connection tabs out of the way to make sure they didn't touch the door. Maybe banging the panel on was just enough to move a wire and cause the short. |

Sorted!
I took the panel off this afternoon and straight away I saw a problem. One of the input wires had come loose from the crossover box. I reconnected it thinking it might have come loose as I removed the crossover box and that the real problem would be something else.....but no, that was it. Tested the stereo and sound from all the speakers again.
I had a friend, whose a real audiophile, helping me yeaterday and the two of us were stumped. Now that I fixed it I still can't figure how one losse input wire on the crossover box on the drivers side front speaker caused me to loose sound from BOTH front speakers and BOTH REAR speakers. The worst that should have happend was that I loose the front and rear Drivers side speakers . I was convinced I'd damaged the head unit. ANyway, problem solved....just a bit confused by it all?!?! |
