Question Advice needed: Choice of front speakers

Already decided to do a speaker upgrade, but I am not sure what speakers to take.
The speakers I see as an option are:

Infinity Reference 6510CS (think the most of you have these)
-Power Handling Capacity (Peak): 270 Watt
-Power Handling Capacity (RMS): 90 Watt
-Frequency Response: 53 Hz - 21kHz
-Impedance: 4 Ohm
-Sensitivity: 92 dB

Infinity Kappa 65.7CS
-Power Handling Capacity (Peak): 270Watt
-Power Handling Capacity (RMS): 90 Watt
-Sensitivity: 90 dB
-Frequency Response: 45 Hz - 21 kHz
-Impedance: 2 Ohm

Alpine Type R SPR-17LS
-Power Handling Capacity (Peak): 350W
-Power Handling Capacity (RMS): 70W
-Sensitivity: 87 dB/W (1m)
-Frequency Response: 35Hz-30kHz
-Impedance: 4 ohms

Looking at costs it is Reference for lower costs. (around €100)
Not looking at costs I think it is a choice between Kappa and Alpine. (between €150 and €200)

For me, the frequency response is also important, the power handling doesn't impress me that much (I mean in general)...

Any advice about other speakers is also welcome, but they must at least have the same spec as one of the above and about the same cost.

Thanks in advance.

Looking at other threads on this question, it would seem the 6510cs speakers would be the way to go for a stand-alone upgrade. They seem to be the safe, tried and trusted 'speakers-of-choice' on Civinfo.
The Kappas really need an amp to drive them. (I found this out the hard way on a previous car). If you are getting an amp, they will sound great.
I'm not familiar with the Alpines, but looking at the sensitivity, I would think they would probably need an amp as well, and being Alpine would then sound good.
As for the frequency response; I don't think I want 35Hz anywhere near my Civic's flimsy doors as it'll probably make them drop off or at least rattle. If the frequency response is a real issue, then get a small sub.
Hope that's useful.
Good luck.

Have to send an e-mail to them to get the shipping costs. At other auctions I have seen that shipping costs from UK can be very high (up to €50 I believe).
Also have looked at shipping costs from US, they are around €25.
Maybe it's still worth it, cause the speakers are much cheaper in the US or UK.

Thanks Andi, it looks like I will go for the 6510cs and throw in a sub in the boot as well

Glad to help.
Check out the other threads here, though, 'cos there is mention that these speakers, (like all good speakers, I guess), take a bit of running in to sound their best, and also some people think the tweeters need to be knocked back 3db or they sound top heavy; probably personal preference, but at least the adjustment is available to get them how you want them.

Take a look here: http://cgi.ebay.de/Infinity-Referenc...QQcmdZViewItem

Are they the ones you are looking for? Shipping from DE is probably a lot less than from UK or US ?

Yes, they are the one I am looking for. But shipping to the Netherlands from Germany also costs around € 15. Buying them in the US, I can get them for almost half the price and shipping from US is around € 20, so that's worth thinking about. Shipping from the UK is around €50 I believe, so in that case it is better to get them in the Netherlands instead of the UK.

Meino,

The reason I originally went for the Infinities (6510) was simply that they were the same impedance as the original Honda speakers (not a good idea to go below the original 4 ohm) and that they were sensitive (important when connected to the original HU amp - probably only around 15w). I wish I was on commission!

The sound is pretty good, but the set up does need a small sub - the Alpine one that Roger fitted looks ideal:

Weak Bass now sorted! Also, pics of the back of the radio

Thanks Pottsy,

First just wanted to buy the references, but thought I would have a look around before buying. At home I have some nice infinity speakers, and they sound really superb, so when I first read your HOWTO, I already knew it would be de infinity´s, but really wanted to hear the opinion of others about the kappa´s and Alpine (also found nice Canton speakers). Probably the References are the best choice without using an amp.
