Oh dear god!

I'm still dubious about the loom, I honestly think that it either might convert more than expected or alternatively it's just different connection.

Basically I'm not convinced that the EX and Non-EX HU's are the same at all, and the connects2 cable which has been tested as working on Pottsy' unit will work on non-ex units at all.
I will get around to getting the cable soon, and update everyone once I do. As mentioned I will only be getting the connects2 cable and will get the H/K unit at a later date as it's too expensive for me at the moment and that's the part I'm sure will work.

As far as control it's going to be somewhere in between the Dension and the Honda unit I'd imagine; basically skip song, skip album and playlists; the H/K will give most control (although no control via the steering wheel)

I'd love to make use of the screen and display track names, albums etc but realistically i think this is unlikely to happen. I can't see any manufacturer going to the trouble of generating such a system just for the civic EX. If i had a system that would enable me to play albums/playlists using the ipod then i'd be happy enough with steering controls skipping tracks and volume control. Thats the minimum.

Use an equaliser! Best and easiest option for me, gives an aux out. Easy to fit and quite cheap to buy equalisers.

The H/K unit won't give you any steering wheel control (well volume; but no skipping at all!) but you get the jog dial which you can use to control everything.
The Dension (now apparently unusable in their new form) will give you most control, which is playlists, track & album skipping I do believe; but that's it.

I don't think we'll ever see the display being used without somebody making a whole h/u; including satnav & the lot....ie pretty much impossible.

The only other possibility is to get a PC, MP3 unit like some people have installed, then using the rear camera in for display; but this is a project which you'd be mad to undertake I think!

Realistically what does it cost?
How easy is it to fit? what about the line out adaptors?
Can we plug it in to our speakers without blowing them?
Is it not an Aux-In it supplies to plug in to the ipod?

Interested if anyone can find out for sure that the dension works. Looks to be the best bet for everyone at this stage of the game. The EQ is an option, maybe you could give us some info on the installation and operation etc.

My Civic!!! Take a look

Have a look at this thread!.

Line out converters are roughly £8.

Equalisers, i saw one yesterday on ebay for £35

RCA cables are cheap, can get 1 to 2m for a couple of quid. You dont need many.

Equalisers do not have to visible, they can be put in the glove compartment. Once they are set, they dont have to move. But eq does make a difference in sound quality.

Only trouble u may have is wiring and gettin into the dash. Thats a tricky job.

Ye, sorry it has an AUX IN! With the aux in, i added a ipod kit, which just allows it to charge and play music. You can use the standard 2 rca to single stereo jack.

For EX owners I'd say that this method is the best so far; and could even be used with a H/K unit, to be honest I'm not sure I'd want to go for this method for a potential saving of about £10.
Of course, for EX owners this saving is more like £100!

do they make a line out converter that will plug into the make of an EX head unit? personaly i think someone out there can even get video on to the screen via a video ipod or other av source.

if i could do both, music & video i would gladly pay £150-200 or this set up, it just needs a company to make something, and i dont think it would be that hard these days.

the way things are looking i guess my type r will be treated to the dension ipod cradle sometime next month and the EQ seems like a good addition to the set up.

The EQ idea is good but not my fave. If all else fails it's an option. I see what you mean gray but who can we pursuade to look at it? I still can't see a company manufacturing something just for EX's

all you need is a line out converter, then something to plug in to the screen, and judging by them photos of the ex hu, its already there.

you would then have the dock connector in the ipod from a box of tricks for either music, or films, as you get this option on the ipod so would then output video straight to the nav screen, simple

But that's not necessarily going to give steering controls etc. In the alpine kit i had before in my previous car it needed an adaptor to interface between the HU and the IPOD. If you're trying to get full controls you're going to need to make the car and IPOD speak to each other.

Here's what i used to have. Full control over everything through HU. Unfortunately not compatable with our stereo's for obvious reasons! But this shows the adaptor that allowed the car and IPOD to talk.

Yep, thats exactly what I used to have too in my old car......worked absolutely perfectly.

My Alpine HU even had a little 'Scroll Line' at the bottom of the LCD to scroll through the songs/artists/whatever even quicker.....

I know they are not too nice looking, but those 2 DIN blanking units you can get for our cars may be a good idea after all - that way you could stick any HU in you wanted.....

I believe another forum member has already posted pics of this idea somewhere on here.....

The blanking units are no good for the EX sadly, bloody EX's, have to make things so difficult. The Alpine system was ugly but worked a treat, kept IPOD tucked out of the way in the glovebox. I'm starting to get frustrated now! I'm off to buy an Auris!

And somebody fitted a blanking unit to find that the display, including A/C controls are done by the HU, so you can't even get time or see your A/C settings.
