I know they are not too nice looking, but those 2 DIN blanking units you can get for our cars may be a good idea after all - that way you could stick any HU in you wanted.....

I believe another forum member has already posted pics of this idea somewhere on here.....

Yes, here are some.

adapter Double Din
Headunit facia????
Air Condition display not working without OEM radio

Seems like you can't just remove the HU, but maybe it would fit wherever that bassworks amp goes?

*first post here...*

My dealer said that they could fit the H/K unit (drive and play) to an EX. The screen would go into the little cubbyhole under the radio and the jog dial onto the right side of the dashboard. He quoted £349 for this.

After having seen the actual kit for £55, I am wondering why it would take £300 to install!??

So, has anyone actually fitted the HK to an EX and can confirm what that's like?

Apologies if that has already been covered somewhere but after ferretting through 3 threads, I haven't yet found the answer.

Not too sure that the screen would fit in the 'cubbyhole' as I've managed to get the dimensions of the screen unit, and it's 2.425" Tall x 6" Wide.....

I also thought that the screen may go there as that would dramatically cut down on having to drill through any part of the dashboard.....

Well, just put the deposit down and they are fitting the Drive and Play thing before I pick up the car on Sat. Will let you know where they managed to put it.

Hehe - well, there are at least two answers to this. I now live in lovely Bedfordshire (1 mile from Bucks, at least North, West and South of us) and originally I come from Northern Germanym about 20 miles south of the Danish border.

My local Honda dealer is in Dunstable.

Once I get the car and know it's all working, I'll post some feedback and if I can figure out how (read the thread) I will make sure to post a picture as well.

Just hope that the fit is how he described it - AUX in to the radio, jogshuttle thing on the right next to the steering wheel, Ipod in the armrest, display in the Dash-cubbyhole.

Apart from dash in the cubbyhole then I can't see the problem.

Do you know what part's he's getting to connect the aux in? And how much is it costing you?
As it's an EX then you need the kit (£55) the aux cable (£40) and the loom (£90) which is why it's costing so much.

Well, we did it as part of the negotiation - last step in my checklist, once there is no give on asking price or part ex, move the battle to discounted extras that are the "deal clincher".

He basically said to close the deal, he would ask for £100 more than previously discussed, which I assume covers part of the expense of the kit and fitting with the other part being funded by his margin.

The quote he had given me previously was £349.50 incl fitting, which he then stated as having gone up to £440 yesterday.

Outrageous for what it is! At worst it'll cost you £200 for parts.

One solution for EX owners, is as I have done. Burn MP3 CD's, the satnav screen has all track details, it doesn't scroll, but at least the steering wheel control works. You hold down track up/down to skip folders, the only thing you need to touch the radio for us to move up through the folders if you have mutliple layers on there, but if you just have a number of folders on the root its no issue, you can get a few hundred songs on there, just split your i-Pod into multiple volumes on CD.

Works fine for non-ex owners too.
I think you get less control as you can only see what you're playing; but you can skip folders and songs.
A 40gb ipod would equate to almost 80 CD's though. And you have to burn a new CD if you get a new album. The ipod link would definitely be my preferred option.
However I really can't justify spending over £100 on it.

CD's are no good for me - 60GB Ipod, full, and the whole point of it was to get rid of all the CDs lying about. I also only have to manage my collection in one place and can just grab the pod of its cradle to have all my podcasts with me (Mark Kermode - Master of Rant!!!).

I think I got a decent deal out of the dealer and as long as the Drive and Play thing does what it claims to, I think it'll be even better than the ICElink+ Cradle I have on my Touran dashboard.

As I effectively only spend £100 on the whole thing, I am quite happy with trying it out. The Icelink + fitting by Carphone Warehouse cost me about the same, which together with the cost of the Ipod cost as much as a 6 CD changer from the VW Dealership...

I take it you asked the dealer about the H+K or do they offer it to customers?

Actually I only asked about what they could do for Ipod integration and he came up with this option from that. Didn't even mention Honda's own integration kit (does it deserve that name?).

So far I am quite pleased with the sales guy. He didn't treat me like a numpty and gave correct information. Also not too pushy on the sales.

I'm pretty impressed with that, sounds like the sales man is pretty switched on and didn't try to flog you Hondas joke of an ipod connection!
