Right, it seems to me that the simplest and cheapest way of listening to an ipod through the stereo of my Civ SE is to connect the ipod to the connects2 box and this box to the stereo.

2 questions.....
1) I am not bothered if i can't control the ipod through the stereo controls, are there any other probels with this method, and;
2) Does/Can this method provide my ipod with power or will i need a charger to plug into the cig lighter.

Any advice/suggestions/help would be greatfully received.

Thanks
James

To answer both your questions;
  1. There are no problems using connects2 as an aux-in - you just plug it into the back of your car head unit (or see the WIKI if your driving an EX) and then plug the other end of the connects2 into the 3.5mm headphone jack of your ipod. I'm using it and it sound great.
  2. It is only an aux-in.... no power supply I'm afraid so you will need a seperate charger.

Can I just confirm (I think I know the answer) does the volume controls still work with the connects2 cable?
Also with any of the ipod solutions - does the ipod pause when you put it in to another mode? (Radio/CD)

Yes, the volume works as normal and No, the ipod will not pause.

That would be the only other advantage for me for getting one of the ipod solutions. I am still getting the connects2 cable, I can afford it, but I just need to build up the courage to fit it!

Did you fit your Infinity speakers yourself? If you did - fitting the Connect2 is no more difficult. Go-on.... you know you want to....

That seems excessive!

I did it on tuesday evening, took me 2 hrs including an interior valet. Dash gone back ok, no rattles as yet, am very pleased with the install. Job was much easier than i thought-i'm usually very ham-fisted at diy!!!!!!

Well yes I suppose it is, it only took me about 3 hours. But it's better not to rush.

the hardest bit to remove was the plastic cover by the satnav screen, it will take about an hour if you take your time, i was surprised how easy it all came apart and back together again. i wouldnt have done it if it wasent for the 'how to' and dont forget the 2 screw at ther bottom of the head unit, ive now got one

ive opted for the full ipod set up which will charge the ipod and give me control of the ipod via the steering wheel, etc and it also as the a connection for a standard AUX input as well so a standard mp3 can also be used if needed, so the best of both worlds.

just waiting for it to come and i will post how good it is.

I've just seen this advertised on e-bay, it's maufactured by Connects2 and it is an FM transmitter and it displays ID3 tags via the RDS circuit on the car radio.
Connects2 iPlugRDS FM Modulator iPod Interface with ID3 Support e-bay item no 260138667423

The only thing is I don't think you can control your Ipod, but it is reasonably priced at £32.95. I'm thinking of ordering one and will post details of its operation once I get it installed. - on that note, does anyone now how I can put it in line with the radio aerial? - do I need to dismantle anything or can I get to the aerial cable anywhere else in the car.

I believe that the actual aerial is at the back of the car so maybe the cable runs through the car somewhere and I could connect somewhere on-route to the head unit.

i have just fitted this and im over the moon with it:-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...6673&rd=1&rd=1

it comes with the extra lead which us EX owners need to still use the sat-nav, and the whole lot inc customs duty didnt come to much more than what honda charge for the extra lead.

it has got an aux socket as well so im now in the process of watching a film on the satnav screen with sound. all the connectors fit the original plugs/sockets and it is a quality item. (made in the usa on the box of tricks)

the only thing it wont do is display the song/artist on the sceen, but thats only because we haven got satalite radio.

i would recommend this and the seller was great. it took 2 weeks to come but was well worth the wait.

I am surprised no-one has replied to this yet, since we are all keen to get a relatively cheap hard wired Ipod solution for EX models.
Gray52 I take it you are still over the moon with the kit you purchased ?
What was the final price including customs duty etc ?

I am not confident about taking my dash apart, in fact it scares the life out of me, Iam one of those guys that ends up with 10 extra parts once I have put something back together again , is there anyone around the Edinburgh area who has taken their's apart and would be willing to assist ?

gray52 - do you get steering wheel control?
Other than that and the splitter being in the box, to be honest - I can't see what advantage that has over the connects2 box.

Daven, it's REALLY easy, just take your time...there's not even that many parts.

i get the option to control the volume, track up & down, pause, charge the ipod + plus other bits as im still playing, 3.5mm jack plug so i can now have sound when im watching a film on the satnav screen, and you also get the harness EX owners need also included in the price.

this is the package i wanted and i think it was well worth the money, but everyones different.

FWH, you will notice that my earlier post asked what the final price including import tax etc was, the link only gives an approx cost in £s which won't include import tax.
