Honda MusicLink / iPod connector - now discontinued?
I ordered my Honda MusicLink prior to buying my Civic a few weeks back, and it was finally fitted today. I've not used it much other than random play and playing the existing iPod playlist, but the sound quality is - as I would expect - excellent.
However, usability wise, I'm finding it very poor indeed. I'm disappointed Honda even released such an unfriendly system. My dealer didn't provide a manual, but thankfully already had a copy from Lozza. Without it, it would have been a major struggle. Tonight I've been Googling and now have another version of the manual, that suggests I should also have received a TTS (Text To Speech) CD. I think this is a US manual, as it mentions the XM radio. Perhaps we don't get the TTS software in the UK? http://www.nuxx.net/gallery/d/39699-...de+-+Civic.pdf The TTS software seems to be the only way of being able to (albeit in a long winded way) selecting music by Artist/Album/Genre etc. If I'm feeling brave at the weekend, I might try installing the TTS software. In the absence of a CD this can be downloaded from http://musiclink.honda.com/Down_TTS.html Did anyone else get a TTS CD or downloaded the software and had any success? My Googling tonight also came up with http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36596, from which I'll quote the following... Quote:

I'm sorry you were so disappointed with it, as has pretty much everyone else that ordered it. At least Honda are acknowledging it is rubbish. Maybe we'll get the full compatability (with use made of the NAV unit) we crave. I'd certainly welcome it.

The one I looked at, and then rejected due to the poor operating system, came with a manual. I was all in a brown carton. I rejected it after reading the manual and realising that you could only choose 6 playlists via the head unit controls.

Are the EU/US links the same then, because if they are why did it take so long to come out in the EU when the US have had the link for quite some time?
It might be worth contacting a UK dealer to see if they have heard the same information as that discontinuation is for the US, as the guy who made the post is in San Antio. |

I'm now wondering if the US units differ from the EU ones.
I installed the TTS software and it took around 4 hours to create the audio for the iPod. Connecting the iPod to the car though, only buttons for discs 5 and 6 appear to work (seems to be random play). Whatever I do, I cannot use the other disc buttons or Disc +/-. My unit doesn't function as the US instructions suggest - I've tried both the with/without navigation section. Looks like the Honda1-7 customisable playlists and the 8/9 might be all I can do. |

i went to my local ice place and asked them for an ipod connector for the new honda civic. he phoned somewhere and they told him that a proper connector for the new civic was 2 weeks away...great. i then asked him if there was anyway to play videos on the satnav screen?? he then phoned the same company and he said they are working on this and would be ready at the end of may. now this would be worth waiting for i and i would pay around £250 for this fitted, so im going to wait and see. if it can be done mine will be 1st in the cue to get his done.

colour me dubious - but I really can't see how this is going to work
What exactly is going to happen to the iPod video feed when you select to use the Sat Nav, or Audio, or air con displays? And what button would you press to get the ipod video feed back again afterwards? iPod music integration - yes. It's using existing feeds. And possibly there will be a proper connector to let you control it from the steering wheel - again the buttons and the feeds are basically there. But video? hey - I'll be happy to be proven wrong! |
