Speaker Upgrades
Hi Guys - New to Forums and Honda - just ordered my Type S GT for end of July delivery (Fingers Crossed) and have ordered the Bass Works kit for rear and the dual cones for the front.
Having then discovered this excellent site and reading about the Bass Works I see people find them too boomy/prone to rattle in the 5 door version - has anyone tried them in the 3 door. If so would like to hear what settings they have the ickle amp on. Realise I could have aftermarkets fitted or do them myself - but the sheer hassle I had trying to fit speakers to my old golf has put me off for life! and quite like the sheer convienience of factory fit - I'm not particularly keen on playing heavy "house" music more about a decent sound for a range of music. Would much appreciate any feedback on this - as didnt go for improved speakers on the Golf and been regreting it for 8 years! And as I work abroad and shift based getting the Car to a proper audio fitter to have aftermarkets fitted would be probably expensive and difficult to fit in - although might have it done in a years time. Also for the sheer "wow" factor went with the ambient footwell lights - havent seen these in "actual" operation - only the Honda pics - anyone with these able to tell me what they are like to live with and if the effect lives up to the photos promise? Thanks for your patience everyone - know I can ramble on for a fair bit Alex (nighthaunt) Civic Type S GT Deep Bronze Del 25th - 30th June |

the bass works is heavily critisced, i would save the hassle and get infinitis fitted etc else where professionally, it will probably be cheaper including fitting and better.
also instead of the blue lights you can change the map lights to be blue for about 10 quid and they look just as good and like a factory option, people have commented i would save them oney on not getting these, tbh and maybe splash out on some nice alloys instead |

Alex,
I suspect you will regret the Honda offerings. Get the Infinities installed. Put loads of sound insulation on the doors. Add a small sub (like Roger Harris's Alpine). Enjoy! (Get a pro to do the lot if you're not happy doing it yourself, even though it is easy, but shop around for a good value pro. Talk to garages, they often know a mobile sparky who could come to you.) |

LOL looking at jme1978's post - seems like the bassworks do need a lot of "bedding in" but sounds encouraging! much as the infinities would sound fabulous (went into halfords and had a listen) knowing me if I went to get them fitted professionally would turn into a 1500+ pound full system with large sub etc... in the boot! Will give the system a go for pure convienience and then look next year when I will have the ready cash to possibly get a full professional tailored system with amps running all speakers.
Thanks for the advice and opinion guys - know it seems odd that I'm going in the opposite direction to the advice you great guys have given me - its not a case of ignoring your advice but what works for me in my situation Thanks again guys Alex |

Lots of people are recommending the Infinities, take it they make a big difference? Giving thought to having them fitted over the next few days.

I fitted the Infinity fronts a couple of weekends back and they do make a big difference in sound clarity. Take the woofers as an example. The OE one looks like it's made from a sheet of cellophane and has a magnet the size of a 35mm spool case. A proper speaker has a decent sized magnet for a start and is made of something a bit more substantial.
Ordered a set of Reference 6522si shallow mount Co-ax's for the rear doors too. I should hopefully get them fitted this weekend. |
