This thread is about: Cracking iPod FM transmitter, it's in Ipods, MP3 Players and ICE at the Honda Civic forum Civinfo; It's just a real shame it's not a few mil shorter so you could close the lid slider (to hide it) when parked up...

I also received my Macally FMCup today. Found that my selecting different frequencies e.g. 94.1 here in S Cheshire, that I could eliminate the static hiss.

Also tried my portable DAB radio using the supplied minijack cable. I had found that I could occasionally get a signal previously but didn't work as the earphone lead acts as an aerial and you obviously have to remove this to use the minijack connector.
Also have moved the FMCup further back as it was irritating me when I changed gear. Still fits snuggly and I am not too bothered that I can no longer see the screen as play an album at a time and would not want to see the ipod screen whilst driving anyway.

I am very pleased to have finally got my ipod to work at a wholly satisfactory level for only £29.99!

My bf keeps a small card about the size of a business card in his sat nav cradle saying in huge letters "DEVICE NEVER KEPT IN VEHICLE" and he leaves the cradle in his van and takes the sat nav with him, perhaps not as safe as taking the whole thing and hiding it but I would imagine it deters the oportunist in the same way as a "no tools kept in van overnight" sign but if someone wants to break in theyre gonna do it regardless ... like the ******** who took my laptop from my car 5 years ago

Good Photos PJR.

I used an iPod nano which is much smaller than an Ipod so the potential gear-changing problem is less apparent.

I tried one or two frequencies to void any hiss.Used 94.1 in Northants, worked a treat.

cheers

I use a Griffin iTrip. If I power it with the iPod battery, sound can go in and out with some nasty hissing (particularly on Petrol Station Forecourts). If I plug in a USB lead with or without the charger end, then the signal is perfect. I assume that the USB lead works like an Antenna. I have also found that my Garmin Charger fits perfectly if I forget my other 2 piece charger that I use with the iTrip.

The main disadvantage of the iTrip, is that you still have to find somewhere to put your iPod. A few times I have had to corner or break hard and its ended up in the passenger footwell.
