Connects2 USB

Hi,

Has anyone tried the connects2 USB interface (CTAHOUSB001) that I have seen on their site? From what I can tell it allows for an aux in as standard and allows a usb memory stick to be used as an alternative, allowing you to control music selection from the steering wheel controls.

I have seen the standard aux in version (CTVHOX001) and was just wondering if this is worth the extra money?

Cheers

Jabberwocky - Did you go for this (CTAHOUSB001) and if so how did it end up? I quite fancy the same rig because of the usb conection. It would allow the connection of an external harddrive or usb memory stick as well as my mp3 player (Samsung) that has a usb output. Thats if it works

Hi WoolyCiv,

Sorry no not yet I am still recovering from the initial outlay on the car etc., but I am thinking of getting one in the next month or so. If it helps there is more information on the unit here http://www.connects2.com/c2search.as...=210&modID=777 which provides a link to a pdf (which at the moment is) here http://www.connects2.com/Instructions/USB_OEM.pdf

Hope this is of some help. If you do decide to go for it before I do let me know how you get on.

At the moment I am just enjoying listening to the engine and the exhaust note more than the stereo

Just had this email back from technical@connects2.com -
'Sorry but we are only compatible with the alpine original head unit.
regards connects2'. This was in reply to my email question to them 'Is the CTAHOUSB001 Connects2 USB Interface compatible with the head unit of a 2006 Civic EX, the manufacturer is Panasonic and the model number is CQ-MH5571LC also it s manufactured in the Czech Republic.

So it looks like it is only compatible with the earlier civics and it is back to the drawing board for us

I am waiting to hear back from local ICE dealer cos I want to get the USB interface fitted - don't fancy pulling the dash apart myself so I reckon £150 quoted for supply & fit of a £90 gadget is pretty reasonable.

Anybody else been quoted for supply & fitting?

I'll let you know what I think once sorted...

According to what Connects2 told me, the usb interface is not compatable with the panasonic head unit fitted to our civics. See my previous post.

Maybe that explains why the company I provided the part number to said they can fit it whenever I want, but the company I didn't said Connects2 were telling them it's not yet available, wait about 4-5 weeks.

I'll re-check with the peeps who reckon they can just get it done...

Thanks WoolyCiv,

Grim news that. I am just glad that I have not gone out and spent the money on it yet. Fortunately I am still enjoying listening to the engine so I have not played much with my stereo, hopefully in a few months they will have sorted things out and I will look at what my options are then

So the upshot is that there is not yet a Connects2 USB interface for the 2006+ Civic. They only provide for the Alpine head unit which is not used on any 2006+ model Civic, including the EX despite the presence of the Alpine satnav unit.

I have pointed this out to Connects2 & they have gone quiet despite me mentioning that there are a few folks on here who would be interested...

What seems odd to me is that they offer solutions for connecting iPods, which is already covered (albeit expensively) by an official optional extra, whereas the USB/jack/memory card side of things is not...

I would guessConnects2 generally re-brand/modify 3rd party products and are waiting for their suppliers to come up with a solution!

I think we should separate out the ipods from this thread cos they are well catered for... this thread is for grumpy non-Apple folk who want to do things their way! ...& therefore get rather let down... Connects2 have had what, 2 years to get this sorted for Panasonic head units in 2006+ model Civics.

I would phone them up to complain but they charge £1 per minute for the opportunity to let them know you want their product...
