Bass
Does anyone know if the Type S/Type R have the same speakers as the 5 door models ?
While I was testing my new FM transmitter I was comparing the same tracks played via CD and via Ipod, and cranking the volume up a bit - Seemed to be more bass than I remember the speakers having originally - Do the normal stock speakers need run in ? I have the bass set to +6 and the treble to +1, with the speakers faded slightly to the rear - I was quite happy with the amount of bass - but I guess everyone hears things differently. |

I've just got my type R and I was not expecting much from the bass on the stereo after reading previous posts, but mine sounds really good. I think you could well be right about the S and R having better speakers. Perhaps having 1 less set of doors helps things too.

Have to admit, didn't think about the size of the enclosure, but the front doors are bigger than on the 5 door and where the rear speakers are enclosed there is probably also a bigger space (and no moving window & door catch mechanism)

although some people are now reporting (6 - 12 months after buying bassworks) that the speakers are now working better. Certainly this seems to be the case with mine (18K miles and 8 months in). Originally I had to have bass turned down to -6 (ie off) or the sound was rubbish It's now up to +3 and sounds almost as good as I would expect from a stock system |

yes, the bassworks are official Honda kit
it's the word 'upgrade' that is up for debate There is a good possibility that the bassworks speakers are better than the standard ones. However, when linked to the bassworks amp (which is then tucked away inside the dash where you can't get at it), the results are - from experience of people here - not worth the £600 Honda charge. 8 months on, and my bassworks system is now sounding almost as good as I would expect a stock, standard setup to be. The alternative to the bassworks are myriad - ranging from spending just £60 or so on a pair of infinities (and some wiring), to a full blown amp and speaker install. Several options are discussed in the How To section |

Well, when I ordered my Civic I also opted for 'bassworks', since didn't want to fiddle with speakers on new car.
All in all, for price you pay it's nowhere worth it. The more time passes by, the more I think of removing it and making my own setup. Yes, it's better than stock speakers, but nowhere close as they should be. One of problems is that rear (bass) speakers are in doors - and you can't expect good bass from that. However, it still does seem like an issue with audio overall in Civic, as few weeks ago I had Civic Jazz as replacement while my car was at service - and I can say that that tiny car had really nice sound - especially counting it had only front speakers. |
