iPod in car charging

Have read with interest Pottsy's thread about fitting the connects2 wiring into his EX enabling him to connect his MP3 player through AUX.
When I get my Civic I'd like to do the same and also put my iPod in the middle 'slidey draw' section.

One thing I'd like to add though is the ability to charge the iPod aswell.
I want to keep the 3.5mm jack as the input, as opposed to the iPod connecting lead Connects2 offer, as it then gives the option of using a different MP3 player as the music source.

So I thought about somehow adding a USB port to the base of the armrest cubby hole so if/when I needed to charge my iPod I could simply plug my USB cable into the port and run the lead to the base of the iPod.

Have done a brief search online but all I can find is a USB adaptor that plugs into the cigarette lighter.

Is what I want possible? Does anyone actually make a USB port that can be wired into the car as far as you know?

Cheers,

Morph

There are no leads that I'm aware of, but you could have a go at making your own. The diagram below gives you the pin locations/wire colours for the 5v and Gnd, so you could modify an old USB extension lead or get the port off an old PC PCI USB backplate. You would have to drop the voltage from 12v to 5v somehow.

Hmmm...I suppose the easiest option would be to wire in another cigarette lighter, and just use the cigarette lighter USB charger thingy, if the only way to put a USB port in is by making one. Dont really feel up to that.
