Honda supplied IPOD connection in UK EX
Recently joined, and first post here.
I have just ordered a Civic 1.8 EX and asked the dealer about connecting an Ipod to the in car factory fitted audio system. They have provided a price of £225 for a Honda connection kit. Does anyone know the specification of this, or have they just "bought in" a third party product ? Any help/advice would be greatfully recieved. Thank you David |

The Honda kit is very limited in its implementation. You have to create 7 playlists named 'honda1, honda2' etc and you then select these from the radio tuner buttons. There is also a facility to play all your tracks randomly. You can't use the iPod controls at all which is very limiting if you want to find a particular track, album, artist etc. Your money but I think you might be disappointed. Ask them to try it out first and see what you think.
My solution has been to burn a number of mp3 disks and purchase an inexpensive FM transmitter which is in the boot so that it is closer to the ariel. Others have fitted the Dension connector, which is far superior (I had one in my Accord), but has not proved to be totally compatible with the Civic head unit. |

Thank for the posting. I think that I will not be purchasing the connection kit from Honda.
I think I will purchase the Denion Ice Link, and have it fitted by the supplier - then they can solve all the problems and also should have the knowledge to fit them. |

I had a dension icelink/ipod in my Golf Mk5, I am more than happy burning mp3's discs for my Civic, for all the reasons stated above
Save yourself some money is my advice, which you can take or leave |

More ipod moans...
I've just ordered a 1.8ex with ipod connection... Not sure I have done the right thing, but can't really fiddle around with it too much as it'll be a company car... Seems to be a lot of mixed press around about this subject! Seems that a simple aux socket in the car would have solved a lot of frustration. I went to Peugeot to look at another car, and they only charge around £10 - £30 for an ipod connection!

Yeah. An AUX In Socket same as in the new CRV would have been nice. Same issue in my Accord - to be honest I didn't want the expence or hastle of the Honda option. Best value for money is the Belkin FM Transmitter. Works a treat even with the screen antena and and the quality is very good - not quite CD but if you only have the std HU then doesn't make much difference.

The Honda Ipod link may be limited with playlists, but 7 playlists of 99 tracks each is over 690 tracks.
The cost I cannot comment on as I got mine thrown in when buying a 'Honda direct' used car, but the quality is excellent and control from the steering wheel is great and as it is all hidden away in the little locker on the dash, there is no worries when parking unlike my previous car where through an Aux socket, and through control from the Ipod, the Ipod was left on display. You can also using 'disc 8' random play your complete Ipod. |

Ipod connection
From what I've heard, seems as though the way it is set up re tracklistings isn't perfect, but it's pretty good if you're happy to work with it! The way it's hidden away is really good, and there will always be a better quality connection through the proper cable than an fm signal.
THanks for the explanations of how it works! I'm still waiting for a delivery date for the civic, but can't wait... |

Totally p****d off
As far as I am concerned it is next to useless to me And then I find that while plugged in you can't even control what you listen to via the iPod itself |
