I think the audio system in my Civic is excellent. I can find nothing wrong with it at all and would only improve it by installing a better antenna. My friend who is a real audio buff thinks it lacks in bass, but I think he lacks in hearing from listening to music too loud over the years!

Although this is all a matter of opinion, there is no way a "real audio buff" could find the Civic sound system at all acceptable in any manner.

Is it worse than many other standard car systems around? No.
Is it good enough for the average listener? Yes.
Is it excellent? No

But then do you want to spend £5k on a sound system in your car?
I wouldn“t.

Is it a reasonable compromise? Yes.
Should the original Honda audio upgrades be cheaper? Oh yes.

Would I like something a little better at least for a reasonable ammount? Yes

All of this imho.

Oh, and I must reference the Hanging Gardens of Babylon (not too hard to spell).

It's more fun having your teeth drilled than listening to the original HU at high volumes (even with the treble turned right down!). You can hear the internal amp running out of puff until it dies on its ****. Awful.

then dont have so loud then i mean i have between 15 -22 which is more than enought for me and its like anything if your going to turn the volume to the max then yes it will sound terrible cos the speakers arnt used to that amount of power plus you will damage the speakers in know time and if your that worried about it then spend a bit more on descent speakers

That is not the whole story, the higher you turn up the amp, the more distortion you will get from the amp. Which is why you want to have a lot of margin in the power output of the amp.
