The HU is fine (not bad, but not like a £1000 Alpine), but as usual the biggest problem are the speakers and their enclosures.
The mids and highs can easily be fixed by fitting aftermarket speakers. To get decent bass, you will need to fit a sub. |

My settings are +6 Bass +2 Treb Fade is R2 and I am generally satisfied...
I have already heared better audio units but I think it's good what in the Civ is... What I really wish that the audio unit would have an USB connector and that I could listen mp3 direct from a memorystick... but.. whatever... |

I find the speakers vibrate badly once you get any kind of volume. Then of course the sound distorts, they're ok, but only ok. Will be looking to replace them with some higher quality ones over the summer.

i have a different kind of problem, my HU runs out of volume! i mean 40 seems to be the loudest and i could turn it up a bit more
but when using the cd player and doing some tricks with mp3gain, this seems to help a little. does anyone know if this limit can be raised somehow? p.s. radio reception is not that good... |

I don´t know if there are pre-outs on the HU or if you need to convert down the high level outputs, but I am sure there is a thread on that if you search. |

i know fwh, but usually when using third party headunits, the speakers give up way more earlier than volume runs out. in previous cars i usually just used the standard existing speakers powered by HU itself and amp+sub and combination was loud! but in this civ headunit, the volume level just stops to 40 wich is not so loud in imho. i can still talk to my friend without raising my voice much...

And the distortion is not TOO bad at 40 either. But I donīt think we can over ride the "40" max in anyway. |

Decent set of speakers apparently helps a lot, or half way house of seperate amp, or go the whole hog and replace the HU too (but keep the original HU tucked away in the dash to retain full control of all the other features) |

wow i feel old, I'm a 21yo sound engineer and think volume 12-13 is loud! Hahahaha. Bass will never be good enough for my liking as I'm used to giant stacks of 18" cones blasting out bass, but i do think it is fairly balanced for the indy stuff i listen too a miserable volume 12!
Think overall its decent enough that I won't be replacing it. Sub would be nice though but preffer the extra space. Finally no prob with reception although my radio has cut out a few times, flicking between the channels brings it back. |
