Why Is My Radio Signal So Crap??

Just bought a 2006 Civic EX, but noticed that the radio signal is **** and I find myself forever tuning the radio.

Has something failed or were they built like this for some crazy reason.

Welcome!

The Civic has poor radio reception compared to many other cars.

Poor radio reception - Civinfo Wiki
(I know the Wiki says that reception is "excellent" in most cars, but I don't agree myself).

If you are in a town centre tuned in to a major radio station, is there still a problem?
If so something may actually be wrong.

I don't suppose that it would all that difficult to install an in-line signal amplifier ...

The sort of 12V unit that is often used in Norwegian mountain cabins ...

Would that provide a fix, or is more complex than that ? ...

Has anyone ever done this ? ...

My radio reception is no worse than my previous IS200 that had an external aerial. I judge this by the way my station of choice is just starting to fade as I approach the office.

The problem as I remember is a dodgy earth connection and/or broken wires in the rear window.

JDR - AFAIK the aerial wire isn't a normal coax so you can't do anything fancy with it like amps or third party aerials.

Is the unit a standard CD player unit? The preamp is normally built into the HU from what I remember. In my FN2 I changed to a Pioneer double din unit and the signal was shocking. To fix this pop to halfords buy a signal booster this then attaches between the HU and the airel cable. You have to splice it into a power cable, turn the radio on and everything will be ok. I picked up an EP3 on Friday and again wasnt happy with the signal so brought the booster think its like £15.00 and no static
