Just spoken again with Connects2... the Chinese are working on our USB interface & Connects2 are sending a couple of their chaps out there towards the end of September so expecting at least an update in the 1st week of October... they are developing the interface for the newer Ford & Peugeot models at the same time.

Anyone tried XCarLink XCarLink I fitted the MP3 version to my Accord on Friday and it works very well and sounds great. Thinking of fitting one to my wife's car once I work out how to get to the back of the stereo.

...looking closer, the unit looks identical to the non-Panasonic-compatible unit from Connects2 so likely that they simply import from the same manufacturer...?

When I get a reply I'll post again...

I saw the Xcarlink a while back and after a bit of research found that it would work in terms of the audio, but no one could confirm it would show track/folder details on the HU.

See here.... AUX in + Play MP3's via a USB card reader

Who wants a USB/jack/memory card interface for their Civic?

That's what this whole thread is based upon - pre-2006 Civic's have Alpine head units that are well catered for. 2006+ have Panasonic head units...

On the Accord there is a White plug where a CD changer would be plugged into on the bottom of the unit. Not sure about track/folder details as the Accord does not support this I had to set the folders up on my Flash Drive as CD01, CD02 etc. then can load 99 tracks on each folder. Appears on display as CDC 1 01 then 02 etc.

Yep, that's exactly what it will do on the Civic - The CD changer socket (Aux in) is now standard across the Honda range.

Since Panasonic helped develope the SD card [along with Toshiba] and some JVC Units already offer an SD card slot, the technologies out there.
I use a micro SD card in my Motorola phone. This card fits into an adapter to become a full size SD card. I have about 250 mp3 songs on a micro SD card. It plays on Motorola phone but when I put the card in a friends Samsung, it said the card was blank! My point being is that technology within the cars Unit will need to 'find' the songs on the card. With Nokia now adopting Micro SD [they used to use the slightly larger miniSD] and with micro SD cards now at 6Gb capacity these seem the way forward in storing songs and making them incredibly portable.

I will be calling Connects2 in about a week as already arranged. Last update was that the Chinese are working on our adapter.

Xcarlink have done nothing to convince me their solution will work on our Civics... they have not tested it & by the looks of it, it is the same unit that Connects2 currently sell which is NOT compatible with our cars.

Check back in a week...

No more progress on this - they are heading out to China again today to see where all the new products are at so I will be calling Connects2 again in 2 weeks.

They have confirmed that the XCarlink product is the same as theirs, from the same factory too... however, Connects2 say they have tested the current USB interface on the new Civic & it does not work, so for XCarlink to be claiming it should work seems a bit dodgy. If it did work on the new Civic then I think Connects2 would be happily selling them to our 292 interested Civic owners as fast as they could!

Update in another couple of weeks...

Thats interesting on the Xcarlink, at least we (I) can put that to bed now, they weren't sure themselves saying it had never been tested.
