I'm sorry but this looks a total waste of time to me for the following reasons:

1. You shouldn't drive with sound so loud you cannot hear ambient sounds (like other drivers sounding their horns) it is dangerous - and I think that it may be against the law (in the UK)

2. The possiblilty of 140 decibels is ridiculous - this is above the threshold of pain! "Prolonged exposure to sound pressure levels in excess of the threshold of pain can cause physical damage, potentially leading to hearing impairment." {Source: wikipedia} "Physical damage" by the way could include ruptured eardrums - which are very painful!

3. "Ah! but I won't turn it up to full!" well wikipedia also says "The major source of hearing loss is exposure to elevated sound levels. Once it was thought that only extremely high sound levels create hearing loss; however, more careful investigations showed that cumulative exposure to relatively moderate levels, such as 70 db(A) can lead to the irreversible loss of hearing." - by the way 70db is not half as loud as 140db this is a logarithmic scale

My father suffers from tinitus as a result of working in high noise environments (he was a miner) and would give anything for a quiet night.

4. There also must be some danger of the vibrations from high volumes stressing parts of the car that are not supposed to be stressed - windows rattling may be the least of your problems.

It just seems to me a complete waste of time and money for something that could not be used (indeed should not be used)

Sorry for the rant - but I think too many people do not understand the dangers of loud volumes!

It's quite easy when you first have got the cable too the cabin. The worst part is from the enine bay and in. You must take the cable through a incredible small hole. I had problems only with an 35mm....From the cabin and backwards went like a charm

i found the hole thanks to an DIY guide here at the forum

You say that the dB result i get from an offical dbDrag contest is wrong?

I respect and understand your opinions , and you probably have right. But i'm young and dumb...but it's a good feeling when i push the volume high I also did this too personalise my car and see what i can build. It's a hobby.

Bit like saying it is ridiculous to buy a car that does 120 mph because that is dangerous on a public road.

And the thing with a good stereo is taht it plays really clear and crisp sound at reasonably high volume, not necessary 140db....
Lets say 100db, where a "normal" stereo gives a anoying noisy sound, this one is clear and easy for the ears

Oh, the good ol' generation gap!

I'm very impressed of kskanoys uncompromising work (as I PMd).

I never never never would have done this myself, but what a push this guy has!
Besides - I'm nearly 50 years and would look completely ridicolous in such a car, so kskanoys chance is NOW, and it's good to see that he's grabbed it.

If kskanoy don't realise himslelf, he even might end up as a grumpy old man.

Okay! Okay! I was a little over the top with the rant and yes the chances of being done by the cops is extemely small.

(and it is a VERY nice system you've fitted Kskanoy)

I was not questioning the specs - that, I have no doubt, is what your system will deliver (in spades!)

But...

You do do risk your hearing.

When you get to my age (51) you actually do begin to regret all those "That problem i will take when i get old" you said when you were younger

GHGH it is my experience that we ALL grow into "Grumpy old men" no matter how hard we try not to!

(and I suspect it may even be a "2 generation gap"!)

Lot of discussions here now (many generations of people here? )
I'm fully aware of the dangers of high sound levels, but as i said i'm young (and probably dumb) and willing too take that risk.

Wise words about being careful with your hearing. Deafness and Tinitus are no joke, and could come very quickly if you expose yourself to excess noise levels.

I could not see the pictures of your ICE set up on this thread ?

All I get is little white squares with red crosses instead of most of the pictures. I have looked at page 1 and double checked that my eyes are open !! The picture of the "Helix" and "2x Earthquake Farads" comes thru OK - so I want to see more !!

Works fine for me in both IE6 and FF even after clearing cache.

Can you click the red X´s and choose view picture?

All other pics in other threads ok?

Try this link: http://melhusgatebil.no/upload/civic/DSCF5448.jpg

Already tried clicking the Xs as you suggest - all that happens is the white box with the red X disappears

All other threads OK

The link above times out after @ 30 seconds without opening.

Very Strange.

kskanoy,

Very nice job. To see such patience and craftmanship from a young'un is always a total pleasure. In my day (early 80's) we had only the most basic of kit but we still made a stab at it...

Dylang,

Building a system like this is about overhead. Just like the fast car that FWH mentioned, a system that is totally within its limits when used a normal and safe levels will give an excellent performance. And those who chase dB records do it all when they are outside the car with the doors closed!

Yea, but think in the summer when we sit there with our windows open trying our best to hear the radio whilst sitting next to the car on the beach. Kskanoy can actually sit in germany and still hear his.

I managed to open this thread on my work computer today - Your ICE system looks incredible, especially that massive boot speaker. What sort of speakers have you got in the doors and how did you mount them?

I would love to hear one of these systems to find out how good it is. (at a sensible volume of course)

Still seeing white squares with red crosses for most of the pics on my home computer though.
