I would have changed the HU a long time ago if it were possible, miss the Alpine ipod set up I had in my Megane. Great as the EX dash is, it's just too integrated. If that makes sense?

Colour coding is a non-Honda option (although some dealers do it) and the seats are the same in EX and non-EX. Are you refering to leather only being an option on some equipment levels? You may be rights there, not sure if you can get leather without satnav -as we canīt get leather at all over here. |

The biggest problem with replacing the HU in the Civ is that you can't actually see it in the first place.
Therefore, to create a hole big enough to fit an aftermarket HU into the dash you end up loosing room for some (or all!) of the controls. For the SE, ES and Sport models (ie non Sat Nav), this is not too much of a problem, as the controls you loose are for the radio / CD However, for the EX, there are also controls for the Sat Nav, which would then have nowhere to go This is with the current double din replacement dash - which is the dash from the now discontinued base level 'S' spec (NOTE - NOT the 'Type S', just 'S') And as yet, there doesn't seem to be a single din version, although there is a thread investigating that option. |

Has anyone looked at fitting a HU in the small cubby in the centre console yet?
Went out to look at this at the weekend, and if there is enough room behind the console, then an HU could be fitted in here quite easily. Granted you would loose steering wheel control (until the aftermarket can provide a link) but it would mean you could leave the standard HU insitu, keeping clock & temp & SRS functions, and just redirect the speaker output to the HU below. A cage would be needed to replace the cubby hole and allow rear fitting of the HU but the gap in the centre console can easily accommodate a removable face plate. I'm gonna have a closer look this weekend, and will report back. Last edited by The Phantom; 10th September 2007 at 14:51. |

That would be ok if you had remote access and the ability to transfer data to the heads up display, most of which we don't have yet.
The little silver-doored cubby is in a perfect position for reach and display, hence my reasoning for placing a secondary HU there. Sod's Law dictates though, that there won't be enough room in the back to fit the HU. Just wait and see. |

in the new accord people have done something like that. keeping the original screen in there while installing an aftermarket head unit in one of the cubbys while still retaining another slot (as a double din type adaptor)

Civic's cubby looks too small for a double din, unfortunately.
I'm thing of two options. First is a single din plus the spare space used as a wee cubby still. Or more likely, a single din with a dock for my ipod. Gonna test fit this weekend with my Kenwood HU before looking into buying an Alpine IDA X001 Media Player and new 80Gb i-Pod. This is all purely hypothetical but if it does work I'll post up a how to and what's needed guide. |
