Single Din Conversion ..

If there was a single din conversion available for the new civic would people be interested, even if the cost was a little more than others - £ 152.75 to be precise ?

That's a bit steep.

Will it allow full use of the display for temp /time / tracklistings from aftermarket outputs and adjustment for the clock?

If not then probably not at that price.

I thought that the Civ one was around £75 plus vat.

Someone posted a parts list with prices in one of the other threads I'm sure.

Headunit facia????

£75 for the facia, £30 for the pocket. Plus vat. Plus fitting came to £177 IIRC.

would it be in a Sat Nav dash, or non Sat Nav?

(Sat Nav version has more buttons...)

This is my aftermarket headunit instalation. In my head at the moment.

Instead of the old volume button - a hole pocket for eg. a pen...
It is an Alpine DVD unit, the plan is to get a steering wheel control interface, hacking to the LCD, Alpine bluetooth system, relocatind OEM HU. Any known solutions to the steering buttons? I believe that americans have a solution from PAC and I think the steering wheel is identical.

Comments, solutions...?

Greetings, Andrej

you would be a star amongst owners if you manage it...

step 1 - find a single DIN dashboard...

I would do this with the existing dash. If I could get my hands on another piece, so the car would be drivable in the meantime, while I do it.
I did something similar, only much less destructive on my previous Civic. It is all handwork.

Not sure how easy it would be to clear out the stuff behind the dash to get a new HU in on an EX.

Nearly impossible. Today I disassembled everything and there is a single PCB with all the buttons, for radio and navigation behind the panel. The only solution would be to relocate the headunit with the PCB and use the lower part of an another one connected only for illumination and controls of the nav part. Not worth it. (At the moment)

A lot of effort from Honda to put everythyng together and still make it full of flaws.

The list of things that really annoy me:
-RDS not functioning properly
-MP3 folders taking ages to read
-rubbish sound, despite the infinitys
-unable to dial from the mobile to transfer to HFT
-no nav coverage for my country

So, I will install a Blaupunkt amplifier and Parrot ck3000 evolution BT kit instead of OEM. Hope I will be able to use the OEM wiring for muting and sound input. Will keep you posted.

Some pistures of the headunit disassembled:

But not impossible, it can be done and is has been done.

If people are desperate, buy the double DIN fascia, get the work done I had done, and use the other slot as a cubby hole.

I meant retaining the stock satnav. I believe it hasn't been done yet. Am I right?

I think so. But it shouldn't be logistically difficult as any h/u output will be an aux input. The physical difficulty is in where to site the controls. For my H/U swap I have put the existing H/U in the boot.
